I recently noticed that a number of home stagers were using what I call geographical long tail keywords in some of the articles they wrote and posted in article directories.

I have long encouraged people to market their businesses via article writing and I have similarly advocated the use of geogrpahical long tail keywords. However I'm not sure they belong in the title of your article.

I posted about this on my Homestaging Business Tips blog.

At the end of the blog post I also offer a special discount price for an analysis of your web site and a consultation on how you can get it to rank higher in the search engines.

Hey Earl, why don't you think they belong in the title? Isn't that one of the main things the search engine is scrolling for? I think that is opposite of what AR teaches in their classes. I'm not a techy so I apologize for my ignorance.

Hi Shar!  As I mention in my blog post I see good and bad from the practice. As an internet marketer the most important thing is to get my web sites to appear at the top of the search engine results when some one goes to Google or Bing or Yahoo etc.and does a search on my keywords.

Many things affect a web pages ranking, including both on and off page factors. Once one has their on page factors set up properly (and sadly most realtors and home stagers don't.) the driving force that determines which site gets listed on top is significantly influenced by the quantity and quality of the backlinks their site has.

The easiest way of generating a lot of back links is to publish a great article that gets rerpinted in a lot of different ezines and on other people's blogs etc.

Now if your article has a title that reads, "Top Selling Home Staging Tips for Minneapolis Homes," it may well appeal to other bloggers in the region who may well republish it on their blog or ezine.  However, a blogger in Spokane may well pass it by even if it's a great article because their readers will think it off topic.

The goal of article marketing isn't so much to try to get readers in your market to read your article, but to get publishers in many markets to republish it so you can get valuable backlinks.

Thanks for this great information Earl.  I hadn't given that concept a consideration since I do care primarily about local readers.  Appreciate this post!
