Even "CRAZIER" was standing out there shooting this! :-O
just too cool...yes, i prefer to watch one of these from a picture window...
MOther nature sure is impressive, huh? Great, kinda spooky, video! Thanks for sharing!
Brad - I would have been hiding in the car preferably under a blanket or something. Maybe not, but definitely in the car and NOT standing outside in the path of one of those bolts.
Good grief - you got one thing right - not such a good idea to be standing outside shooting this. Man we see this a lot in AZ and no way would I be that close. Sometimes they're within 1/2 mile of our house - scary stuff.
Geez Brad......that is amazing.....and scary......dang you were close....
It's a spectacular sight to watch but extremely difficult to capture on film. What kind of camera did you use?
That is scary... Looks like some things got struck!
My puppy would have been trying to get under my feet.
What amazing video.
Hope you were very near cover as it approached!
What camera did you use to shoot the video, if you don't mind if I ask.
I shot all this footage using my Flip video camera and my iPhone. I should have been in a house watching it out the window but couldn't resist the opportunity to capture this while we were out driving on the road.
I can't tell you how many things got struck during this storm, but I'm sure glad we weren't one of them. :-O
Brad - You captured one of those Mother Nature Moments that fascinate all of us like staring into a campfire and being mesmerized.
LOL. Welcome to Arizona Brad! My husband & I tell people we have our own light show right out our back door. It is amazing to watch the evening news weather report. They show the strike count when these storms roll through and it will go into the thousands in a very short period of time.
I didn't even have to see the end to know you were in my fair state!!!! I AM GLAD that you were safe.
Last year a friend came to visit during "monsoons" - we sat on the patio with a bottle of wine for over 2 hours just watching the magnificent lightning shows. Didn't get a drop of rain, but loved the show.
You'll probably run into these next week at raincamp in Prescott. The "high country" is getting clobbered almost daily right now.
Stay safe but be sure to bring your cameras. And, if you "catch something", please send me an email so I can enjoy it with you.

Holy light show Batman! What great footage and very worthy of one of my few reblogs! Kudos~
Brad, just a few days before that storm you videoed, we had one like that upstate. The 22 year old daughter of a friend of mine was out boating on a nearby lake and got caught in the storm. While disembarking the boat, she and the lifeguard assiting her were struck by lightening. Both went into cardiac arrest and were rushed to a nearby hospital. The lifeguard was fine by the time they got him to the emergency room, but my firends daughter was in a coma and touch and go for the better part of the week. Miraculously, she survived and is almost as good as new, though still weak from the trauma. The incident sort of dampened my appreciation of lightening storms, no matter how beautiful. If you feel the urge to photograph one again, take precautions and make sure to stay safe.
WOW Lora - that is intense and I am so sorry to hear about your friends daughter, glad they both survived and made it through the ordeal.
I can understand why your appreciation for this sort of thing might be tarnished a bit, I would feel the same. I did find a whole new respect and appreciation for these storms, I was in awe of its power and felt totally insignificant in perspective of its power.
All my best to your friends daughter and to the lifeguard.
Brad, Arizona can have some of the most amazing lightening shows going. I remember when I lived there years ago I saw lightening hit the pasture and balls of white light roll along the barbed wire fence. Where was the flip phone when I saw that? Oh yeah, that was the stone age.
Then the lightening hit our power generators (only way we had electricity) and every single light bulb in all the houses and buildings blew out. Very scary, very impressive.
Thanks for the show.... next time.... stay safer, LOL.
Brad, An amazing storm. Amazing you captured it.
Saw a news clip last night about technology and people in the wild

Gloria - that was a great reminder, but us techy folks will always take that risk for a good youtube video opportunity, even if it is a stupid idea.

I know Tim, I still can't believe I stood out there with a camera and shot this storm.
Looking back I think I must have been a little crazy! lol~
