I learned some great things from my son this week that really apply to the real estate industry!

  1. Build your database. I thought I had a pretty good database until I realized my 14 year old already had over 250 contacts in his cell phone!
  2. Back up your data.  (I have known this one for years but here is his reminder.)
back up your data

He spent the night at a friends house and their dog decided to get some more iron in it's diet or something!  I am confident that he will have his contacts back up to over 250 before most of you do.  I am also glad that our cell phone provider has unlimited texting plans for kids like him!

Its amazing what we can learn from our kids. My son has had a great time helping agents in our office learn how to use their smart phones.  Our broker still won't touch one!

@Nell, I have gone through so many versions that you would think I would be smart just via the osmosis factor of holding all that "smart" next to my brain all day.  Pretty soon, your broker may learn that if they don't step up to today's technology, you might be forced to step out (to a brokerage like mine).

Building your database is an important part of our business, probably the most important.  Good lessons to learn.

@Christine, I figured if my 14 year old could have 250+, I should at least have 2,000 but I don't (yet).

That must have made you mad. I'd have been pretty mad if a dog chewed up my phone.

@Rich, This is why he doesn't have an EVO like I do.  It takes a lot more than that to get me upset these days.

That looks like a seriously big dog with big teeth got to it. Let's hear it for little yap-yap dogs. LOL

Hi Jim -- My daughter's cell phone died and nothing was backed up and it had TONS of stuff on it, this was very painful, and it wasn't even business.  This post just caused me to backup my bb right now, it's been a week and this post made me feel vulnerable! :)
