Comment Notifications

A little sunshine is peaking through the 'Rain.

Some members were having trouble receiving notifications from ActiveRain. We understand the severity of this and put our nose to the grindstone.

We've improved reliability of comment notification delivery. Since every email system is different, we cannot guarantee delivery.

We took two big steps:

Sending all notifications from a new address, notification@activerain.com
Adding SPF records to ActiveRain. This allows third-party email systems to verify that comment notifications aren't spam

Some members have a challenge-response method to prevent spam. We recommend these users and all users manually add notification@activerain.com to their allowed sender list.

Things should begin to run much more smoothly now.

Thanks for the update, and hopefully the firestorm on the other blog doesn't get to you. Some people need to get a little Stephen Covey training and spend a slight amount of time seeking to understand before firing all pistolas!

This is a great new system and much appreciated.

Malcolm, the writer will get an e-mail notification of comments if they have enabled that functionality in their Active Rain settings.

Kerrie... I hope this works because I haven't received anything in my company inbox for the last 3 months. I brought this up to Bob Stewart and he said to switch my e-mail address to see if it was my company... and to ask my IT guy... well, it never worked and he had no idea... so I will try this again tonight.. hope it works... and thanks for this update. PS.. what happened to your pic?

I don't care about comment notification, but I wonder why I don't get the newsletter anymore. I used to get it daily, then it stopped, then I got it for about 2 weeks, and it has since stopped... I wonder where it's lost in cyberspace...

I'm not so concerned about the notifications...but today, I wrote two comments and tried to submit them, only to get a message that I had tried to submit a blank comment...very distressing...

I turned off notifications of comments, knowing that I can find them easily enough on my Activerain dashboard. Hopefully you will continue to allow members to opt "in" or "out" depending on their own preference.

Thanks for working on this because I know it's important to a lot of members.

I've not been getting them but it's because of a new spam filter, so I didn't realize there was a problem. You guys are great. Glad it's getting fixed.

Here's hoping! I've been missing notifications for a while, now. I've added the correct email address to my address book, made sure AR wasn't going to spam folders, etc.

Hi Kerrie ! ... I haven't had the notifications for weeks, but worse for me is that I havent had the Newsletter delivered for months now ! :o(

I didnt change my email, and I dont think it's my gmail server - anything I am missing as to why I not getting it anymore ?

... was i banned from receiving it for something I said !!!!!!!

How about the AR group contact e-mails, are they working yet? I sent one out a few weeks ago, and not one member in that group of mine got the group contact e-mail that was sent.

Pam and Sheldon - Make sure you add newsletter@activerain.com to your approved list of senders. I would also use the widget on the right hand side of this post to resign up just in case.

Dale - It should be working now. Please make sure to follow the steps in the post to make sure.

I haven't received comment notifications for 8 months or so. Have learned to live without them. Tried technical support at the time, but they said I wasn't receiving notifications because one e-mail address is forwarded to another -- although I received them just fine with that set-up originally. So, glad you are helping people with new problems.

I haven't noticed the change other that I haven't seen the newsletter in a long time.

Thanks for the update. I haven't had the problem of not receiving comment notifications but its great to know that "AR Gods" are always working behind the scenes to improve and "repair" ActiveRain. Keep up the good work!

I have had randome down time with the comments, but I figured everything would be worked out... eventually!

Hi Kerrie, I think the new from address is better and though I have not had any difficulty receiving notifications, I can understand how others might have. Thanks for addressing the issue for those that did have difficulty. I love how AR tries so hard to be responsive to our all of our collective needs.

Okay, so after being on here 3 years, posting a bunch of comments and making a lot of friends, I finally took the plunge TODAY and posted for the first time. I noticed I was getting notification long after I had already checked for comments (you know how it is when it's your VERY FIRST ONE!!!!)...later in the day, though, pow-pow-pow, the emails started flooding in. Okay, slight exaggeration as I didn't have THAT many comments (LOL) but it was very exciting.

Sure, I know the excitement will wear off, but it sure was exhilarating! Thanks for everything you do.

This must be why I haven't got a response for my inquiries for raincamp. I haven't received an AR emails since the whole proxy error thing. I just added the notificationns email...fingers crossed.

PS, I read your comment above to Donna and tried it since I haven't received the Daily Drop for a LONG time either, but it wouldn't let me sign up saying that I was already signed up.

Thanks, Kerrie -- it's a relief to hear that I'm not the only one who has been getting the newsletter only sporadically, i.e., on for a while, off for a while... (I had been told my spam filter was the problem but I didn't think so.)

You guys are always looking to improve the system. That is what keeps this thing growing.

I don't have my blog setup to send me comment notifications. I get them when I login. But it's good to know you guys are on top of things!

I get no emails or newsletters, but have learned to live without them. I do look forward to hopefully receiving them again one day. Thanks for all your hard work, and I will try adding the new email address and see what happens!

Thanks for the wrenching, tweaking, dialing in better software for everyone wandering around the AR campus to enjoy time saving, more knowledge to enhance the experience.

Thanks for your efforts! I haven't noticed this problem but have noticed had some slowing down when submitting posts, causing flashbacks to the days not so long ago when proxy errors were so common I quit using AR.

Will the notifications start back up automatically or is there something we need to do on our end (outside of allowing notification@activerain.com)? Strangely enough, I just wrote a post about this...I stopped receiving notifications when they turned off email notifications during the proxy server issues from earlier this year...I get the newsletter, but I don't get notifications from any other types of activity related to my posts or associates...

I noticed from one post I did that people that had mail from their websites (like you@mywebsite.com) instead of the larger carriers are having problems. That's why I just stick with one at Yahoo.

Thanks for working on it and keeping us posted! I've added the new email to my safe senders list and hopefully all will be good from here on out.

Just signed up for comments from this post to see if I receive them - haven't received email notifications for quite some time now (this includes notifications of new comments and is anyone tries to email me through AR). And, no, they are not going to a spam filter. The response I received from AR back in June: "There is nothing we can do on our end, sorry Don."
Ouch.

We'll see if it works now...

Kerrie, this is a switch for me - I receive AR comments but lately my email has blocked such important things as two CONTRACTS! and other communication between me and agents in a transaction. I will input the email address just to be sure they don't start picking on AR :)

Posted a blog yesterday and haven't received any notification of comments...The fix doesn't appear to have helped my situation...<sigh> Oh well....

Very interesting. Over the past three days, all comment notifications from the past week have suddenly been arriving. First time I have received comment notifications in months.
