New and Improved ActiveRain Leaderboard

We are pleased to announce the new and improved ActiveRain Leaderboard! We couldn't have done it without the amazing feedback of our Community over the last couple of days. Thank you all so much!

ActiveRain wanted to create the best possible layout for all of our members. A place where you can easily see how you rank within all of AR, your state, your professional group etc.

The new style is sleek and sexy...take a look.

As you can see, I have narrowed my search down to Real Estate Agents in All States. You can also add state, county, and city for more localization.

If you are roaming around and your name is in the list you can hit the "show me" button on the bottom right and it will take you to the page you rank on with your profile highlighted. Please keep in mind that if you are not a Loan Officer in New York and you have that specific search open, the "show me" button will not appear.

The new design will make it easier and more convenient to find what you're looking for; whether it be a referral or simply to see where you rank amongst other members.

Another great tool is that you can access the leaderboard from your main profile. If you click "My Home" on the top right hand side of AR you then see your smokin' hot photo with a few stats below. The "Rank in State", "Rank in County" and "Rank in City" all link to the leaderboard.

ActiveRain is always working hard to stay on top. We try our best to provide you with the tools you need and are asking for. The new ActiveRain Leaderboard is our newest addition.

Just stumbled onto this from our My Home page just before your post. Pretty cool! Does the trick for us, and hopefully everyone else.

We are all in our places with sunshine splashed faces...all herded together. Think of all those links, the SEO dragon fly back and forth just this blog creates, sets up for a force field wave to ride. YIPPEE. Got to make a comment. Great job, way to go (high five hand slap sound).

I think it looks great. It looks like alot of work went into it.

Kerrie - the layout is fantastic and very easy to navigate. The irony for me is that as a newbie 'rainer', I just figured out yesterday how to see who was ahead of me and by how much. My officemate and I are locked in a brutal AR fight to the top, so I've gotten strangely competitive on here. It's great to have a way to see where we both stand. Thanks for the improvement!

Looks pretty good but why are there so many agents without photos? Is it a "pay" thing or a setting?

Few questions about stats. The number of my featured posts is incorrect - is there somewhere specific we should report that?

Do re-blogs count as posts? I don't think they should. There is one Realtor who shows to have 34 blog posts, but every one is a re-blog.

I like how you did it. You kept your other pages the same but you created a new page that only members can find. They can now obsess about their ActiveRain rankings there and work hard climbing the ladder to stardom amongst their fellow ActiveRainers. Great job. What an elegant solution.

I like the new board! It seems to have what everyone wants (rankings, pts., etc.). The new board is also a reminder for people like me who are on page 15 or so in our state to get on the ball! :)

I like the new board, but I agree with Michael #6, the public should be able to see this. Thereason I strive I to be higher up the board is so that the public knows I am an active working realtor. With the names at the side of the page I do not think they are prominent enough. Just my opinion.

I like you guys -- you listen! And boy, did you ever do that FAST!!

Dare I say that now we really can see just how skewed the Featured Posts are?

My suggestion for Featured Posts is that you're only allowed one in any seven-day period. That way, when people keep pushing the SUGGEST button on the same people over and and over and over again, the Staff can ignore them if they've had one in the past seven days and move on to find new, equally interesting, and equally well-written posts by others in our 187,225-member community. They are out there! You just have to be willing to get out of that comfort zone with the same ol', same ol' and find something new.

No fear, I can think of a handful of members who will author scathing rebukes of your attempts to appease them. ;)

Hey I do have a minor suggestion, can you add the latest post date and headline to each profile on the leaderboard? (almost like a tweet :wink:)

I think it would give it more SEO and if a consumer does stumble upon the page they may have an incentive to go in and read blogs.

Hi Kerrie. It looks good and may satisfy some who were concerned about this.

That is why while I have some experience on the tech side with Unix, Linux, etc... I leave it up to the tech people to resolve tech issues. I do not presume to know more than they do ;) I knew the tech team would resolve things on their own time with the data that they can see which we cannot see LOL It's not easy to troubleshoot either. It takes time and energy coupled with user criticism which makes it even more challenging.

My concern is simple LOL I do not like having to upload an HD pic. I could not care less about the ~1,000 extra points for doing so. Jonathan has since posted a hyperlink to resolve this issue but I am adamant about using HD pics. I can understand how it helps with image SEO for Active Rain but I don't like HD pics of myself LOL I'm hoping we can opt OUT of uploading an HD pic and opt IN to using the pic we are using now... which will take a few lines of extra code by the programmers.

I like Renee's suggestion of adding the most recent post data. Otherwise, looks great.

Good Morning Kerrie, Nicely Done! Thank you for all you do to improve things here in the Rain. I expect that some will review this and think, "How nice to have this clear and concise tacking system of member point ranking". There will be others that will analyze this over and over to draw conclusions and make judgments.

Would this also be a good place to track the number of subscribers to members posts? There would seem to be an interesting relationship of point rank to subscriber rank. Just a thought.

Good job responding so quickly... but I'm not sure why everyone is so happy. You definitely addressed the point standing issues, but seem to have totally missed the real point.

When you go to ActiveRain without logging in (i.e. as a consumer) there's no way to bring up a list of agents or search for them without getting, you guessed it... more blogs.

Blogs are great, they're the backbone of AR and the best strategy for getting new clients. But why is AR so intent on eliminating the agents lists altogether for the public and replacing it with duplicate information (blogs) that can be found on every other page in ActiveRain? This seems like an obvious feature to include on a website like this that has real value for its members and the public.

Please forgive me for not understanding, but I still think that boldly promoting the two leading agents in the area and pushing the rest of us out of the public eye does us all a disservice and the side bar thumbnails are a inaccessible and incomplete solution to the problem.

We had a brief hiccup while the new Leaderboard updated featured post counts – it won't happen again. As a side-bonus, your featured post counts should be accurate on the Leaderboard now!

I think new and improved is an understatement. I'd still like to see the state pages get tweaked but Rome wasn't built in a day.

Kerrie and the rest of the AR team -

1) You have developed an elegant solution that addresses our needs as well as providing us with additional search capabilities and number of posts and featured posts. Well done and the turnaround was very fast (only about three days since the old state/province pages were removed). Now everyone can go back to playing in the Rain! :)

2) In comment # 22, Pat and Wayne asked why Lenn Harley was not shown in Kerrie's screenshot. Kerrie said in comment # 35 that she would investigate. I looked recently looked into this situation as a result of observing a similar situation in the past month relating to Lenn. The answer is very simple. Kerrie has filtered the results for "Real Estate Agents" (see the leftmost field). However, Lenn had set herself up as a "Real Estate Brokerage" not as a "Real Estate Agent". Thus, Lenn does not appear. If you change the leftmost field to "All Profile Types" in "All States", you will see Lenn as number 2. Therefore, the leaderboard is working correctly from that point of view.

3) Please make one change in the second filter relating. The first option in the second filter should state "All States and Provinces" rather than "All States". States refers to the second level of government in the USA. However, Canada refers to the second level of government as provinces.

Hi Kerrie~ I check and I am only #202. I was hoping I was in at least the top 200! I guess I need to get busy!

Perhaps I am dense, but I still don't get it. The states still look the same, and the leaderboard won't be found readily by consumers, nor would they care. (Or, as I said, I'm dense and just don't get it.)

I would think a consumer wanting to find a professional would look through the state roster and then want to sort by agents, stagers, mortgage lenders etc.

It is very cool, but I don't get how some agents keep their high ranking without blogging in months, sometimes even a year. How is that? I thought I read you changed things to make it where you only keep your ranking if you keep the activity level up.

this Leader board neuters any and all complaints about the change to the States board, that is of course once it goes public. I am assuming you are in beta testing before rolling it out to the general public.

Once again members can look at their standings in the rain while they stroke or double click their mouse.

I really like what you guys have done here. At first I didn't understand, and I must admit I was disappionted, but you made me a believer.

In fact, I wrote a local post that received many, many comments from consumers, not members! I believe it is because of the added exposure from your local page improvements. Thanks!

You are a sweetheart. The new leaderboard (accessible only by the membership?) was put up with amazing speed. It is an improvement.

Now, once again, we can all see each other's points for purposes of competition or referral. And the public can see a more interesting "States" page.

But the new "States" page (accessible to the public) still needs tweaking - in a couple of ways that ought to make everybody happy.

Those are:

Devote less space to the index links to cities and counties (in the left-hand column). (Maybe by deleting the redundant word "county" from the name of each and every county - and making the column more narrow.)

Devote more space to the list of members (in the right-hand column) by making it wider.

Including:

1) making the member pictures larger

2) providing two links per member: one linking to the member's profile (which the new page does not do - and which the old version did do) and one to the member's blog (which it does now).

Great job. Keep up the good work.

I don't know how I missed this post. I saw this yesterday and actually put up a short post about it.

Changes always require adjustments...I liked the larger photos, it helped me recognize people that I already know...otherwise, I think it is great.

Kerrie... it's about time that you all brought this back... it's been a long time and I kind of like it, except those that just spam for points... just my opinion... writing posts every day, so many picture ones and non-quality posts, just to gather them points... Anyhoooo... nice job here and thanks.

Kerrie. I agree with comment #6... I think I am lost... where on AR can you even find this, the leaderboard. I see it nowhere... also, on Jonathan's post, I suggested that they add back the feature to find the types of people on the state page... such as... loan officers, realtors, appraisers... there is no search on the main page of the state pages. thanks ps... and will you all be bringing back the top subrscribers list?

Kerrie, again, and as usual, AR found a way to satisfy most everyone... Kudos to everyone who worked out a plan to resolve the issues. Me? I'm just very happy to be here. :)

Right now you have to find the leader board in a very roundabout way by clicking on your own rank # on your home page. Then you can fiddle with it to get the main leader board. Someone sent that hint to me in a private message - sorry I didn't get to reply thanks yet but I will. :)

That said, nobody should have to have a map or private instructions to find the darn thing.

Kerrie, the new city/state board is great - but now am in a quandry. I am hyper local with my location on Fleming Island, but that city isn't named in the Florida roster of cities. The only one is Jacksonville - you have to go to a County to find the smaller cities. Any solutions for this?

I would like to add my thanks for doing such a great job and I was amazed to see how high up I was ranked in the Seattle area. This has given me the incentive to keep going to see how far up the Leaderboard I can climb :)

I'm rarely on the Leaderboard, but I LOVE the new look of Localism! I just blogged about it. Oops! Should have read other posts before blogging my own >.< Anyway, I agree. The new look is incredible. And the Localism layout looks like an SEO gold mine! LOVE IT!

Kerrie - I went looking for the new and improved leaderboard on the Activerain homepage today, but didn't find it. Then I checked my own home dashboard to see if it was in the left column. Finally, I did an Activerain search, using the title of this post so I could click through to the leaderboard...

Did I overlook a link somewhere in this journey?

Margaret you find it by clicking on the link of your ranking status on your home page. You can then adjust the filters once it comes up.

It would be nice if it would be more prominent on our home page (such as, a link called LEADERBOARD....trite, simple, to the point...)

I asked this same question but Kerrie didn't respond (like Jorgen ignored one of my questions previously, 18 months later still no answer to that question...so I'm getting used to it.) Thankfully another member saw my unanswered questions and gave me a heads up on where to find it.

Jonathan and I discussed this yesterday. I'm not sure when it will happen, but I am confident we both agreed that having the leaderboard displayed on the home page was important and we will get that in place in the not too distant future.

I agree..that IS one SEXY leaderboard! ;-) I was very pleased to come across it before reading this post and thought it was really well-done. I have so very impressed with all the recent updates to this site, not the least of which is the speed of the server now...haven't had an error code in a long time! Thanks!!!

Now that the vigorous debate over the disappearance of the rankings followed by the emergence of the new leaderboard has settled down, our opinion is that the new leaderboard is a significant improvement!

There's a couple of things that are hidden here. I wish we could do a search to read only people's featured posts. You can see that they've had X number of featured posts, but you can't find just the featured posts. It's on my wish list.
