Realtor Ethics - Are You Talking About Your Clients Online?

More and more, people are talking about their daily lives online. We, as Realtors, have days that are unmatched by any profession. We work hard not knowing where our next paycheck will come from, and many times can be left in the dust by potential clients who change their minds without notice.

At the end of the day, it's nice to go online with other professionals who've shared our ups and downs. But how far do we go? Is it okay to talk about our deals as they happen with others? Should we wait until a deal is closed before discussing the intricacies? Do we need the permission of our clients?

If you know anything about blogging, you know how important it is to connect with a reader in ways others can not. Sharing your family, your pets, and what you do in your daily life allows your potential clients surfing the web to understand your personality, and hopefully, relate.

However, talking about yourself all the time will leave your blog an online ghost town. You can't gain trust of consumers if you don't show proof of your expertise.

Building trust online is all about sharing your expertise. The more you know, the more you share, the more people believe you know what you're talking about. If we don't talk about real estate, how can we convince those potential clients we actually do sell real estate.

Anybody can take a few pictures of a local neighborhood and say "call me so I can show you homes in this area." Does that mean you actually know how to see a deal from contract to closing?

Would you work with an agent because they took nice pictures? Or would you prefer to work with the agent discussing how they make deals happen? And is it okay to talk about your deals while they're still under contract?

Chris,

Lisa makes some thought provoking points.  I think it's helpful to know "who" our target market/client is and develop posts to reach that target. Who are they and what are they looking for...? I try to watch the analytics and see which of my posts get clicks and reads and write more of those.  I find somethings I like writing about don't get read, but as they say "it's not about me". :  )
