30 days of solid Rain - Active life here in the cloud, Saint Cloud that is...

flying high Over the last 30 days Liz and I have had quite an experience here on ActiveRain. Our adventure started out with a simple challenge to post 100 wonderful reasons in 100 days that we love about living in St Cloud which is centrally located in the great state of Minnesota.

A tree bends over the MississippiOur posts have caused us to reconnect with our community, our friends and make some new ones along the way. This all started off innocently enough with taking a good hard look at our blog and what was being sent out into the world and how appealing, or not, it would be to potential clients. We quickly realized that while showcasing my listings, providing local St Cloud and central Minnesota real estate market data, and linking to my real estate website was all well and good there was not any real reason for someone to choose to come back to our blog verses another St Cloud area real estate person's blog. We decided to correct that immediately and share with everyone nice enough to check out our posts all the wonderful reasons to love St Cloud.

The Granite Trio of St Cloud MNWe have now covered 30 different area features, events and groups and are still going strong, everything from the fabulously beautiful and completely restored Paramount Theatre to the Mighty Mississippi River, from Clemens Gardens to the entrepreneurial Spirit that is alive and strong here in St Cloud. Out of sheer curiosity Liz one evening about 8 hours after we posted about the Granite Trio, a large sculpture in downtown, went onto Google to see if we had a placement for the post. She typed in The Granite Trio St Cloud, and WOW! the post we just put up on ActiveRain was number one.

Clemens Gardens St Cloud MNWe have also learned some interesting things about our own towns history. In our recent post about James J Hill, for instance, we had no idea that he influenced so many lives in such a positive way. His legacy goes far beyond what our previous understanding of his life had been. We have even, through that post, now made contact with the James J Hill Reference Library and have welcomed them to share some more information on our post about all of their incredible resources.

James J Hill Granite Statue St Cloud MNThere are a few posts that we will not be able to do, due to certain rules. We had planned on covering the history of one of our local banks. After reconnecting with one of the people over there who we have not been in touch with for a while, we learned that due to Federal Regulations, because they have insured deposits, they can not participate in any kind of blog posts such as our wonderful reasons series. We were hoping to be able to include them, but we understand and continue to enjoy a now renewed relationship with them.

inside the restored Paramount TheatreOne last thing - Localism. We are now all over localism for our area and have even created several neighborhoods in and around St Cloud. As we post more, heading towards 100, we will continue to add to this and build upon what we have already done. This is becoming more fun as we go too, now it seems like with each new post there is an opportunity to link back to another post, from the series wonderful reasons to love St Cloud, or 2.

Hi Steve. You're doing a great job!  Your research for the posts is evident. I know it's been said before - but it is amazing how much we can learn helping others! Now I just need to conjure up the discipline you've got to do a series on my area!  Thanks for sharing.

Bruce - Thank you for the very nice comment. I would be very happy to offer any assistance I can, with the understanding that I am still very much in my own learning curve at this point. New Jersey is a beautiful state, I am sure that there are plenty of fun things to see and do and post. I look forward to seeing what you write and post.

Very very nice work here Steve.  Lots of good info and links :)  Excellent example of how to make things happen in a big way in localism.

100 blogs in blogs in 100 days.  That's quite a challenge.  Nice to see blogging about your area made you the realtor to call in your area.

Anna: Thank you for the feature and for the compliment it means a lot coming from you, we also can not thank you enough for your help during this adventure :)

Kay: Thanks, just so you know we got to about number 21 and asked "What did we do?" then, just like with running, the second wind kicked in and now we are having fun with it and we are getting more and more people who are interested in participating in the posts. It is feeding off of itself and we are too.

My wife and I make an annual trip to the Gardens and I generally tell about ten people a year to swing by and take a walk-through. Right next door is one of the premier disc golf courses in the state and this summer marked my 20th year playing at Riverside.

Hi Scott: The gardens change so much throughout the growing season do you make your annual trip at the same time every year? It is one of our favorite places in town and anytime we have guests or clients from out of town we make sure to let them know that they should go.

Riverside had a big tournament earlier this year, did you participate?

We vary out trip and try to hit the rose bloom if we can. I am an old school player and not a huge fan of tournaments as it goes against the nature of disc. However, the league players and tournament players do a fantastic job of maintaining/improving the courses.

Hi Scott - The rose garden in bloom is definitely a highlight. We did, early on in our series, a post on Riverside and disc golf, it seems to really be growing as a sport Minnesota and across the country. Are there courses in Brainerd?

Steve: I just read your comment back to Scott and there are 2 courses one at Crow Wing Lake Camp and one at Lum Park.

I wanted to add to this post that we are now starting to be contacted by people with ideas and information about topics for the series. There are connections being made with this series. I strongly suggest to others if you do not have someone who is on Localism doing posts about the area features and activities/events in your area to start now. The only thing I might suggest is to do a post every other day or maybe 2 times a week, unless you have a little help :)

Hi Liz: I agree one every other day would be a nicer pace, and that would be my suggestion to others.

Hi Liz: That would be up to Liz, she is her own woman, as you well know :) but I know she would be very happy to help you out in anyway she could, me too for that matter, just let us know!

Hi Carolyn: Thank you for the support, today is day 48, I am almost 1/2 way there!

We just had a very interesting occurrence with 2 of our posts you might want to check out the new post written for ActiveRain Members about Hyper-Local posts and Hyper Local Business Networking.
