Water SprinklerSummer Water Bans in MetroWest Massachusetts

Along with the heat, humidity and fun summer activities comes the necessity to ration one of our most precious commodities - water. Various towns in the MetroWest area have written and published their own restrictions.

Due to the warm weather this season as well as the dropping water levels in the Hopkinton Reservoir; the town of Ashland has imposed restrictions on outdoor watering.  Under the Stage 1 restriction, car washing, automatic sprinklers, ornamental pools and the topping off or filling of swimming pools with town water are prohibited for now.

Residents are encouraged to use only buckets or hand-held hoses for outdoor watering.  And, the year-round odd/even watering restriction is still in effect.

Natick has also enacted an odd/even water ban which is voluntary.  Additionally, there is a ban on most outdoor watering from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In Holliston residents must do their watering by hand and can only do plantings, not lawns.  Other Holliston restrictions include - no sprinklers for kids to run through but children's pools can be filled.

The town of Westborough has issued a mandatory water ban that prohibits nonessential outdoor water use from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This includes watering of lawns and also car washing.

Southborough has had a voluntary water ban for the past several summers.  And, this year it is more of the same.  Under the ban, residents in odd numbered houses are asked to water their lawns only on odd-numbered days.  Even-numbered homes will do even-numbered days.

If everyone pitches in we can conserve and get through the summer with plenty of water for all.

Claudette, great idea to post the watering bans, I guess i never thought of y'all having a shortage of rain in the Northeast. It's happens all to much here in Texas but we have learned to live with it!

Russell:

I guess "we all" do have problems with water in these hot summer months.  However, I am sure that they do not come close to anything like you have in Texas.
