Wild Orchids Growing in Downtown New Port Richey

Wild Orchids in New Port Richey, FLORIDA

Wild Orchids in New Port Richey, FLORIDA

Not many people realize that Orchids are native to Florida. I came across a nice little patch of Encyclia tampensis growing high up in a tree in the City of New Port Richey. Thousands of people probably drive right by these Orchids and don't even realize they are there. Sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses...I mean Orchids.

I have been a member of the New Port Richey Orchid Society since 2006. We meet on the first Wednesday of every month at the Buena Vista Manor Club House, 5112 Rosada Ave., Holiday, FL, 34690. Meeting start at 7:00pm. We have great guest speakers and plants for sale or for raffle at every meeting.

Roy and Gail- how lucky you are to have found these orchids.  Have you visited the American Orchid Society here in Delray Beach?? If you haven't, then hop in the car!  (not this weekend, we should be getting rain).  I love orchids and am a member of the AOS but have never been fortunate enough to see orchids in the wild.

Thanks Kathy,

I will have to visit the AOS next time I am in your neck of the woods. I also want to go to the Shelby Gardens in Sarasota.
