Gardening Between Denver and Boulder - Fav Plants #9

By
Real Estate Agent with The DiGiorgio Group

The parade of new bloomers is slowing down as we head into late summer, so I haven't been able to post a favorite plant to my Facebook account every day. But there's still a lot of beauty out in my Arvada backyard so I'm gonna keep sharing until it's all over.

This is the ninth post in a series. If you haven't been keeping up, you can go back and read my first post about Gardening Between Denver and Boulder, and from there go to the second, third, etc. Or go on to the tenth Gardening Between Denver and Boulder post.

If you are a Colorado gardener, especially in the area between Denver and Boulder, I'd love to hear about your favorite plants.

July 20 - Fav plant of the day - lily silk road - she towers over my head and gives a fragrance that perfumes the whole bed! I planted this fall of 2007 and this is the first year it has bloomed. I'd like more, but at $13 a piece and 2-1/2 year wait, it might not happen!

July 24 - I've negleted my Fav Plant of the Day fans - so here's one that's in top form right now. It's called Russian Sage, you see it all over the place. It's big and pretty and smells great. Hmmm ....

July 26 - Fav plant of the day - tall phlox. Yes, there's a phlox that grows 3 feet tall, blooms mid to late summer, and smells oh so nice. Comes in white, pink, and mixes. Plant these and they keep coming back on their own each year.

I have a couple of hints on this one - I've learned that even tho they bloom in the shade they get mildew and their stems look awful, so much better in full sun.

But even in full sun the bottom half of the stems look ratty, so they need something shorter planted in front of them.

Happy Gardening - not a lot of gardening time left here in CO

It's wonderful to take the time to watch a flower bloom! I'm trying to get in the habit of wandering the garden every morning.

That lily is beautiful, and I'm a big fan of smells, so the more a plant smells, the better I like it.

Yup - scent is one of the requisites in my plant purchases. That lily bloomed almost 3 weeks.
