USB Drives- and portable apps

By
Real Estate Agent with ERA Realty Pros

USB drives are a great way to migrate files from one computer to another computer, its small, and can store quite a few documents and pics!

Another good thing is that most, if not all, also comes with "portable apps", programs that is small enought to fin in one of these usb drives, and no installation is needed. Just select it and your ready to go. Most come with openoffice, which can open microsoft files such as word and excel.

Buy a few and pass them around, people love them. If you have a spare send me one! (just kidding).

have any questions about them, let me know :)

Yes, I have one question.

Do you know how to use one to transfer information from ACT software from one computer to another with a "thumb drive"?

Robert, ACT should have an export function. The export option will walk you through the export steps, one of which is the location where you wish to put the extracted file. this is where you would select the thumb drive as the export location.

Once there, go to the destination pc,connect the thumb drive, install ACT (if not already) run ACT, then find the import option.

That should do the trick.

Also, check the help file on act, select search and type in export, you will get step by step instructions there as well.

I don't leave the house without my thumb drive in pocket. It is my real estate life-line and can save my butt even when I don't have my laptop. You can find a computer anywhere these days. It was the best $50 I have spent on technology.

Don't leave home without it!  Mine is on a lanyard around my neck.  Last week Office Max had 1GB units for $7.99 on promotion (limit 4) that's the best price I've found.

Richard, Im not positive but their sales usually run week to week or until they're inventory is gone.  I'd call them or stop by before Sunday.  If you haven't visited OM in a while they're getting much more competitive.

thanks for the update, I'll look into it.

Also, if you have a staples near by, they will often have the same sale or if you bring them the sale flyer, they would match it.
