RealtyTimes.Com has my article on Social Media Policy running today! In today's world on on-line Blogging, and social media...I think this is a great topic of discussion for all involved in real estate from many aspects...peer-to-peer, networking, consumers, E&O, compliance with state real estate license law, REALTOR ethics, and broker liability.
Diane Casale, REALTOR, ABR, SNP (Huntsville, Alabama Crye-Leike Realtors) I think it is critical especially for Brokers!
Robin Cutler and Kay Pearson, Clarkston, Michigan Real Estate (Max Broock Realtors) Surprisingly, most offices do not!
Jim,
I don't think there is an actual brokerage policy...but...the agent is always responsible for following any requirements when "advertising." And as we know, "advertising" is a very broad term.
Rich
Richard Iarossi, Crofton MD Real Estate, Annapolis MD Real Estate (Long and Foster® Real Estate, Inc.) This policy would be geared specifically to online media, Blogs, Facebook webs etc....
Excellent article with a lot of great points. As brokerages "catch up" with what many agents are doing online, I imagine policies will start to follow...
Susan Haughton Alexandria, VA REALTOR® www.susanmovesyou.com (Long & Foster REALTORS® Old Town Alexandria) It is too bad that our industry is not as forward thinking and progressive as they would like us to believe. All too often these policies are implemented when there is already a lawsuit.
First I see you featured on Mainstreet today and now Realty Times? You're a busy man right now. Social Media policies need to be implemented in every office, starting with ours. Too many agents run amuck and get themselved in trouble talking about deals that have not closed. Congratulations on all the great articles.
Everything is subject for scrutiny. Your videos that claim this and this are out there with thousands of views and you better have it right. No assumptions, no puffing, no over the top spin just because we are in sales either. Saleman does not mean wearing plaid jacket, with a smelly large cigar and forcing someone to take action, buy something they won't be happy with, would have on their own without the razzle dazzle. A salesman knows the property backwards and forwards. Same about the area the real estate is in.
Kay Van Kampen-Springfield, Ozark, Nixa Greene County Missouri Real Estate Agent (RE/MAX Broker, RE/MAX Solutions) Thank you so much Kay!
Andrew Mooers | Northern Maine Real Estate / Aroostook County Broker (MOOERS REALTY) Andrew, I totally agree, but I feel too many brokers do not keep up with their agents actions.
Hi Jim! We have tight reign here in NC but, I do see some who do not adhere. I am a rules-gal and just HAVE to do the right thing--I worked too hard for that license!
I'm off to read the article. Congrats on the feature, Jim!
Jim - Excellent article in Realty Times today! This is a topic that should be discussed in every office and is something I plan to bring to the attention of mine.
My office does not have one Jim. I think there should be some kind of policy in place...that's for sure!
Debe Maxwell - Search Charlotte Homes for Sale - Charlotte NC Neighborhoods (Helen Adams Realty) Thanks Debe. I like the rules also, because they really benefit all!
Donna Bigda, REALTOR®, CDPE, e-PRO Branford Connecticut Homes and Condos (RE/MAX Alliance) |
You are not alone. Most offices do not have a social media policy in place.
Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty) I think we should be forward thinking in real estate. It is too late when we have to react to an unpleasant event like a lawsuit.
Jim, great article in realtytimes. Our office is in the process of creating a social media policy and will use your info as a reference. Are you aware of any sample policies that are available online?
I'll have to check and see if NAR or IAR has suggested policies available. If not, it might be helpful.
Mark Waldhoff GRI, CRS, Champaign/Urbana, IL (Keller Williams Realty) Thank you. No I am not familiar with any specific policies. I do know of one broker that forbids his agents to participate. So if their is an infraction, the agent is responsible solely.
Social Media isn't going away, and office usage does need to be monitored. Good thinking, Jim.
Penny Hull at Stanton Homes - New Homes Raleigh Triangle Area (Stanton Homes - New Homes Raleigh NC and Surrounding Areas) I totally agree Penny. I think if anything...social media, web will only grow bigger and expand.
