The good news is that people are still moving to Williamson County and our housing market is healthy.  Still down a bit, but desirable.  With the people coming here, and with our terrific school systems, we have many children in the school system and that number continues to grow.

There are two new schools in Spring Hill opening this year, Allendale Elementary and Spring Station Middle School.  Next year there will be a new High School there too - Summit High School.

The issue at hand though revolves around the overcrowding at Trinity Elementary School on Hwy 96 East.  The School Board is committed to build a new elementary school to open in August 2011 to relieve that crowding.  The location that  the school board has chosen is on Clovercroft Road, on the East side of Wilson Pike, near Breezeway and Chardonnay subdivisions. There are some definate traffic considerations regarding having the school in this location on Clovercroft Road.  The 3 noteworthy items are the one lane underpass on Wilson Pike, the bridge at McEwen over the Railroad tracks, and the traffic there is already a steady stream from Nolensville.  I know the county and city try to plan ahead, but sometimes the missed areas collide and remind us that the future is unpredictable.  And there isn't enough money for every road that needs it. We will keep watching the news.  In the meantime - if you have 20 or 30 acres of land that the school board could buy.... this might be the time.

You can read a good write up about it at the Tennessean.com.  Also, the Williamson County Schools Home Page has a link with traffic information.

In my immediate driving area - just taking my kids to school in the morning, and then maybe going to Cool Springs, if I don't pay attention to the when and where, I can easily find myself in one of 3 schools drop off times - whew!  That will challenge the patience of anyone.  I wonder how many people get to work without any schools on the way.  It comes with the children.  I think I can manage all of them with a smile, except the Franklin High School school traffic.  Now that is a doozie.

By the way, schools start in about 2 and a half weeks, enjoy the reprive.

Monica - I wrote a little something about the clovercroft school, and I think it makes the Franklin school board look pretty foolish that they already bought the land without and contingency for having it rezoned. I don't know if it's carelessness, or ignorance, or arrogance, but it's a real problem. The school would be in an area that not easily accessed by bus, and not many of the children live close to the proposed school. I think it would be much better if it were closer to hwy 96, since the proposed are is very close to Brentwood, and not many children will be coming from the north.

It has a lot of problems.  I agree about the land purchase, it should have been contingent.  They have been working on this land purchase a while and had no good options.  The really bad mistake lies with the city though.  They should have had the foresight, with a neighborhood the size of McKay's Mill, to have them include property for a school in the subdivision.  There is a property on or near Carothers, supposedly, but it is too expensive.  This is a really tough call.  You noticed that I made a call for anyone wanting to sell the school board some land?  Right.  :-)

The county can have it there without the city's permission, as I understand it, but that is where the possible lawsuit comes in.  It is just a mess.  Traffic there is a mess.  Lack of land is a mess.  Another piece of land seems best, but I know they have been looking.  I think most of the kids will come from McKay's Mill.
