If you are a senior needing help with selling your home, or a family member looking for help when it comes to a probate or estate sale, it's important that you work with the proper real estate professional.
A "SRES" is a Senior Real Estate Specialist, designated by the National Association of Realtors is that professional, one who is trained to have an understanding of senior issues.
In California you can have a wide variety of issues including a senior who is on, or has received Medical. The sale of a home maypossibly trigger unplanned consequences at an already difficult time.
Another probate/estate issue could include a senior with a reverse mortgage on the home. As a broker I've experienced one estate that found the property in foreclosure as a misunderstanding of the payoff rules upon the death of a a loved one.
Then there was another time where one of the heirs (of an estate) purchased the family home only to find it was re-assessed when the proposition 58 family transfer was denied. After much work and follow up, the re-assessment was reversed and it saved that family member thousands.
It's important you know, I am not an attorney and cannot give legal advice, nor am I a tax professional howeverI am a long-time Broker and real estate professional who is also a Senior Specialist and I work with legal and tax professionals in my real estate practice.
I've also created a special senior real estate website, CaliforniaSeniorRealEstate.com, that's filled with helpful information and tips for seniors and their families.

Lynda - very nice video with great staging (instead of a pile of papers).
Lynda, You did a great job with this video. I have been thinking about getting that designation. Is it on of them where you have to pay a fee every year?
Your video and offer of using text messaging show that you are comfortable and knowledgable about technology. Your expertise and warm genuine concern come through. You would be a comfort to work with. I would want my loved one working with you. I read your long list of designations and qualifications and learned that you are a 30 year resident in your area. What a fountain of information you must be!
I was going to tell you that you did a great job with the video. I see, however, that I was late to that party. I wish you well in representing seniors.
Jeff ~ Stack of papers? You must have seen my home office.
Marchel ~ Funny, but I'm not sure, at least I don't think so. I think it's more like the GRI, but maybe I'm wrong, I've been one for a while now, prior to NAR taking over the designation. As our population ages I see the value of the designation growing.
Maya ~ Thank you for your kind words.
Cal ~ Thank you and working with seniors and their families is a growing pillar of my business.
Hi Lynda, The new site is wonderful and it has it all and the links are excellent. The site is neat and well composed. All the best and it is a great site and should be a great lead generator.
Lynda you set the bar, I love your videos and hope I will be doing this one day, I just hate to be in front of the camera.
You are inspiring me to do more with my SRES.
Hi Jennifer ~ Thank you and I know what you mean. I post a lot of local stuff on FB and most all of them are "narated" by me and I'm not in the photo, I prefer it that way myself. However evey now and then (depending on the subject) if it's more of a tutorial or how-to I'm on camera, but that's about it.
excellent video presentation. you must have experience in front of groups and or cameras.
of course, I disagree with the NAR and the designation after attending a three day course. all agents should know this stuff without earning a designation for it being a specialty. But, I did like the video ;-)
Hi Gregg ~ While I agree with you that all agents should know, it's obvious there are some specialities within the scope of being a REALTOR. More than anything else, not one of us should take on (alone) something that is beyond the scope of our knowledge.
Roseanne ~ Good luck on your designation course and take in as much as you can. I'm sure it's even better now than the original, and it's an ongoing subject of learning.
One of my favorite things to do is to work with seniors. My mom was always in geriatric nursing while I was growing up, so I've always been very comfortable with this age group. I think we are all going to have to deal with many generational issues as the population ages. You look like you've got a head start!
Lynda- The services you offer are invaluable to our Seniors. It's not just the knowledge in my opinion, but the passion and caring that you offer. Hope to see you again soon :)
Lynda -- an excellent post and video. It is so important that the public understand it is important to work with a professional like yourself when senior issues are considerations in the real estate transaction.
