Grab a Treasure at the Camas Washougal Treasure House!

When you first walk into Treasure House, it looks to be just your ordinary 2nd Hand store. But it has that something special, that spark that makes it "the heartbeat" of the community. It has been open for so many years...I used to go there when my daughters were very little. I'd find all kinds of surprises for them there, toys, books, records (when we still had a record player!) dishes, dress up clothes, games....it's just fun to go to the Treasure House. I would give the girls a dollar and they would be able to find something fun to take home. Treasure House now has a huge bin of little toys that are priced at around 10 cents and they have a free book bin too.

I have seen many friends volunteer there over the years. It is a worthwhile place to volunteer. The Treasure House has changed a little in that now it offers free bread, sometimes garden vegetables, clothing, and other valuable items to the community. All of these items come from the goodness and time and efforts of others. There is a "drop off" bin in the back or you can just bring donations into their "garage" if they are open.

Here is an exerpt from the Treasure House webpage:

Our Treasure House History
Treasure House began in 1969. In that year, St. Thomas Catholic Church established Treasure House and began providing assistance to needy families in the community. St. Thomas found the requests for assistance overwhelming and closed the same year.

In 1970 members of the community saw the need in the community and encouraged churches, groups and individuals from the community to join together and accept the obligation to serve our community. The organization reopened and the new name was Inter-Faith Treasure House.

In the 36 years of service to our community many changes have taken place to meet the needs of the growing of the community. Today we are the primary social service agency serving Camas and Washougal. Treasure House offers a range of services provided by trained staff and volunteers.

What I love is that the community stepped up when they saw a need rather than counting on the government for help.
