GAIN Neighborhood Happenings/Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods Anthem Neighborhood Crime Prevention

By

This is another community action program that helps make Anthem, Az. a great community to raise a family in.

G.A.I.N. What Is It?

G.A.I.N. stands for Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods. G.A.I.N. is Arizona's answer to National Night Out, which is held in August. Because of the soaring 105+ temperatures in August, communities statewide decided to observe National Night Out in October and call it G.A.I.N.

The Success of G.A.I.N. Depends on You!

G.A.I.N. is a day of celebration for the successes of crime prevention through community involvement. Block Watches, apartment complexes, neighborhood groups, parks, businesses, etc. across Phoenix participate in block parties to show support for the efforts of those involved in the fight against crime.

G.A.I.N. is also a day for the police to show their appreciation for those in the community who support our efforts in
the day to day fight against crime. It's not too early to start thinking of ways you can help make G.A.I.N. a successful event.

When Is It? - Saturday, October 16th, 2010, Morning or 4:00pm - 8:00pm.

For more information and coordination, get in touch with Anthem Neighborhood Watch at anthemwatch@yahoo.com.

Everyone needs to start deciding and planning their events now so you will have plenty of time to work with neighbors, Block Captains, and Assistant Block Captains to plan your event.

Anthem Neighborhood Watch committee members, NV Posse, and community leaders will be coming to all the events. Gift bags are in the planning process for all the neighborhoods. If you would like to contribute to the gift bags contact ANW.

Think about 300 items, coupons, etc. if you plan to donate to GAIN to put in gift bags.

Ideas For G.A.I.N. Events

Some ideas for neighborhoods include: pot lucks, BBQs, patio and backyard parties, Halloween party, art fairs, hay rides, hot dogs, games for kids, bouncy house, and baseball. If the event takes place in the morning, serving coffee, donuts, lemonade and cookies would be great.

If you would like DMFD or Phoenix Fire Dept. to attend, you should request them about 1 month ahead of time.

Locations

Look around your neighborhood to see what works: pocket parks, garages, streets, backyards, pools, cul-de-sacs, patios...(Permits are needed to close the streets in Phoenix).

Make sure to plan things that will involve the families and children of your area.

You may want to keep neighbors updated on your plans and activities. Organized planning will produce an event remembered by everyone involved and those who attend. Have a goal that this will be an annual event in your neighborhood...Good Luck and much Success!!!
