Riverhill Farm, my CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) where I buy an annual share in the harvest, also offers six internships each season.
The internship program is wonderfully described on the farm's own website. Click the link above to pay a visit. You won't regret it.
After I pick up my weekly box of goodies, I stop along the road as I depart the farm to watch the interns at work in the fields. They always stop for a moment to wave at me. It lifts my spirits to know that there are still young people who honor the agricultural traditions. These youngsters are there to learn the new sciences of sustainable farming. If I were younger by several decades, I would compete for one of those internships myself.
And, by the way, "compete" is an accurate term. There is a waiting list for openings. This is serious business, and you have to demonstrate your intensity of purpose, your potential for success, and your talent for hard work to land one of the precious Riverhill Farm internships. Once again, here is the link to the internship page at Riverhill Farm.
In addition to the Riverhill Farm internships you can find other apprenticeship opportunities at this farmlink site.
