I have been asked a few times about how to add ‘follow me’ buttons to Facebook pages, blog posts, profiles etc. So what I wanted to do here with this post is give everyone a universal way to add these buttons to all of the above. In this post I will show you how to add your own ‘Follow Me’ buttons to several popular social networks and your blog.
Yes, the images are hosted on my site. If you would like to change that then please feel free.
First you will need the following code and you will need to enter your username for each social network into the code that I am providing below. I have bolded where you need to place your usernames for your convenience.
********************START CODE
<p><a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/YOURLINKEDINUSERNAME" ><img src="http://www.cherylwaller.com/images/btn_linkedin.gif" border="0" height="43" alt="LinkedIn" width="43" style="border-style: none;" /></a>
<a href="http://www.facebook.com/YOURFACEBOOKUSERNAME"><img src="http://www.cherylwaller.com/images/btn_facebook2.jpg" border="0" height="43" alt="Facebook" width="43" style="border-style: none;" /></a>
<a href="http://www.YOURBLOG.COM"><img src="http://www.cherylwaller.com/images/btn_blog2.jpg" border="0" height="46" alt="Blog" width="46" style="border-style: none;" /></a>
<a href="http://www.twitter.com/YOURTWITTERUSERNAME"><img src="http://www.cherylwaller.com/images/btn_twitter2.jpg" border="0" height="45" alt="Twitter" width="44" style="border-style: none;" /></a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/YOURYOUTUBEUSERNAME"><img src="http://www.cherylwaller.com/images/btn_youtube.jpg" border="0" height="45" alt="YouTube" width="44" style="border-style: none;" /></a>
<a href="http://www.activerain.com/YOURACTIVERAINUSERNAME"><img src="http://www.cherylwaller.com/images/btn_activerain.jpg" border="0" height="43" alt="ActiveRain" width="180" style="border-style: none;" /></a></p>
********************END CODE
NOTE: For any social network that you do not want to include, you would simply delete from <a href= to </a>
For Active Rain, you would simply post your blog as normal and then go back to edit your post. You would then click on the HTML tab and scroll all the way to the bottom of the post and then paste the code to the end of your blog.
For your blog you would follow the same directions as above.
For your Facebook profile you will need to go to http://facebook.com/profilehtml and click on 'go to application. Allow the application the permissions that it requests. Then, click on the 'Profile Tab' tab. DELETE everything inside the box (don't worry about reading any of it) and then copy and paste the code into that box. Click submit.
NOTE: Facebook has removed boxes from personal and business profiles, so if you try to add this in a box... well... you will not be able to do it. Boxes are now gone.
Go back to you profie and click on the '+' symbol and select 'Profile HTML'.
For your Facebook business page you will need to install the FBML application the same as you would for a custom fan page. I have a video here: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1359769990402
Once you have the FBML application installed, you will need to go to 'edit page' and then select the FBML application. Name the tab 'Follow Me' (or anything that you would like) and then copy and paste the code into the provided box. Save the changes and then go back to edit page and click on '+' and select the FBML page that you have just made.
Thats pretty much it! If you have any questions, please feel free to comment.
