I went to puchase diapers yesterday. Target was INSANE! Then it hit me.........East Carolina Univeristy just started back. It was pure bedlam!
Reflector.com reports every year on the influx of students to the school:
University officials expect to enroll more than 25,100 students this fall, a 3 percent increase over last year's fall enrollment. Leading that growth is the 4,800-student freshman class, also the largest in ECU history.
"Over the past several years, we've been the fastest growing campus in the University of North Carolina system, and we'll continue that this fall," said John Durham, a university spokesman. Final enrollment figures won't be available until the 10th day of classes.
The campus' physical growth continues with a series of construction projects this year. Over the next year, a massive renovation at the Belk Building will be finished and a $38 million facelift will begin at Mendenhall Student Center. Construction on the ECU's piece of the East Carolina Heart Institute should end in early 2008, although the facility isn't scheduled to open until later in the year.
Early construction on ECU's dental school is also likely next spring.
ECU freshmen began moving into residence halls Thursday and will continue through the weekend. Classes begin Wednesday.
