South Texas Ranch Rodeo--A Taste of the Old West Coming To Boerne, TX This Weekend

Back in the day...or at least "my day"...kids like myself couldn't wait for the times when we could watch shows like Roy Rogers, Sky King, Bonanza, The Rifleman, Wagon Train and Gunsmoke.  It wouldn't be unusual to see scenes in those programs where there would be a "friendly" competition to see who could rope the best or brand their steer the fastest.  To me it was a fantasy I only dreamed of...but here in South Texas it's been going on for decades.

If you have ever wondered just what real working cowboys do during their work week...then you need to take the time and go see the South Texas Ranch Rodeo event in Boerne, Texas this weekend.  This is just one stop along the way for dozens of cowboys to be in the top six teams to go on to the San Antonio Rodeo Ranch Rodeo Finals in February.  You will get a taste of the old west when teams from neighboring ranches compete in events like:

  • Steer Tying
  • Wild Cow Milking
  • Calf Scramble
  • Steer Roping
  • Bronc Riding
  • Steer Loading
  • Calf Branding

I'm not sure what all of those entail...but I do know that I like to see real cowboys at work.  Not only will you get to see some of the finest cowboys at work...you can also enjoy a concert and dance featuring Aaron Watson on Saturday nite.  The cost is minimal at best with tickets at a pre-sale price of $10 and $15 dollars at the door.  That'll beat going to a crowded movie theater and paying that much for a tub of popcorn any day of the week.  You can find all the details about the who, what, where and when at the official Ring of Fire Ranch Rodeo web site at:

www.sacorralclub.com

One of the best parts about the Ranch Rodeo is that proceeds go to support 4H and FFA groups across Texas.  Until you've been to an 4H or FFA event...you will never know the quality of kids it produces...but that's another blog all together.

Decide to do something different this weekend and have some fun at the Ring of Fire Ranch Rodeo in Boerne, TX!

We had a great time at the rodeo...  It was my first "ranch" rodeo...and it was certainly different than the big one we go to in February.  I loved it just the same.  Lots of fun watchin real cowboys do their thing.
