The good news just keeps on coming for us here in San Diego! The latest Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller Home Price Index released yesterday indicates that San Diego home prices increased 12.4% in May 2010 over May 2009. Although San Diego took second place behind San Francisco's 18.3% increase, San Diego is the only metro area in the Index to have price increases for thirteen consecutive months! Increases were also noted in Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Portland, and D.C. That's 11 out of the 20 metro areas in the Index! The experts (and I'm still wondering if we should trust "the experts" anymore) expect flat prices for the rest of the year, which I think is good. We've already seen that excessive increases month to month lead to prices that cannot be sustained, and excessive decreases month to month lead to other problems in the economy. ♫♪♫♫♪♫ If you're looking for a great real estate agent in San Diego, well, I'm available 24/7, so feel free to contact me by phone or email. The news just keeps getting better and better doesn't it? I say it is time for a happy dance! America's Finest City!
Jim: Glad we are both working in markets refusing to participate in doom and gloom. Great job reporting the stuff the press barely mentions.
Jimm DC is one of the markets you mentioned - the turnaround is becoming more widespread
Jim....It is very nice to see that there are markets which have started moving upward. Slow, steady growth is wonderful.
Hi Jim, I love the postive news!!! Woo hoo, it is great to hear some good news.
Stephanie - I figure if we were one of the first to collapse, we might as well be one of the first to recover.
Chris Ann - With all the doom and gloom in the ActiveRain Featured Posts, I'm thinking that maybe one of the news channels bought ActiveRain while we weren't looking.
Karen - It is. I think it's been a long time since more than half of the metro areas in the Case-Shiller report had increases, and San Diego's leading the way with 13 consecutive months of increases in that report.
Carra - I'd like to see continued slow and steady rather than the unsustainable increases that we had back in the early 2000s.
Liz - My marketing guru likes to use terms like "the power of positive thinking" and "mind over matter" and "surround yourself with positive people." If we could get our news anchors and our news stations to think like that, we might get out of this mess even more rapidly.
Jim ... It's good to see that San Diego won't participate in the doom and gloom talk about real estate, and that home sales and prices in May 2010 were so much better than same time last year. Thanks for your local market housing post.
