Why bake cookies? This one's on me......

I've baked thousands of cookies for my Real Estate clients, friends, and family over the years. It seems they never get tired of seeing me arrive at the door with my yearly Christmas tin of sweet treats. I usually start baking in November to prepare for Decembers pop-by's. It's a labour of Love that is so well received that I cannot imagine switching to another type of gift giving.

I'm going to give something back to the ActiveRain community in appreciation for all the nice comments, phone calls and emails regarding my cookie baking adventures, and my message inserts.

It seems that cookie baking is a traditional activity that's associated with comfort, home, childhood; with simple moments in life. An activity that has endured through modern lifestyle advances, economic upheavals and changing food trends, has to be recognized.

This idea was inspired by Sally Weatherley-Exit Stage Right-Vancouver BC , who first traded a cookie recipe with me a few weeks back. I thought it would be fun to raise the cookie awareness level up a notch, and to spread some joy.

So, in keeping with this sentiment, I'm going to give away a big little prize, for one lucky ActiveRain member. A Big Book entitled "the ultimate cookie book", a volume that I've added to my collection of stolen inspired recipes. I've tweaked many formulas to make them my own.

Hi Sergio - For many years, some friends and I would gather for a cookie exchange around the Christmas holidays.  It was so much fun.  You have come up with a wonderful alternative.  I love to bake and find myself tweeking recipes to make them more to my liking.  But, without a doubt, my favorite cookie is the Mexican Wedding Cookie.  I use a recipe that was submitted to REALTOR (R) fundraiser I participated in.

Here's the recipe:

1 cup butter

1/4 c powdered sugar

2 tsp. vanilla

1 tblsp water

2 cups sifted flour

1 cup finely chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cream butter, add powdered sugar, vanilla and water; mix well.  Add flour, then nuts.  Form into small balls about 3/4" in diameter and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake for 20 minutes. Remove, then let cool on the cookie sheet.  When cool, roll the cookies in powerdered sugar.
