Fruit Doesn't Always Die on the Vine!

I work with alot of Relocation Buyers, those moving to Lake Charles, Louisiana from other areas.  Because of the strength of our local oil and gas industry, Southwest Louisiana has alot of management employees that transfer in and out with companies like Conoco, Citgo and PPG Industries to name a few.  We here in Southwest Louisiana have been lucky to enjoy a healthy real estate market.  Our local industries are the mainstay of our economy and steady relocation stimulates  housing sales.

Last summer I obtained a relocation referral for a Human Resource Manager relocating here from Indiana. I met the husband first and then the wife drove down and I spent three days giving her a tour of the Lake Charles area and viewing homes she had selected.  We started out looking for a nice executive home and actually got as far as writing a contingency offer on a house. The relocation company was going to pay the buyer's closing costs, however,my buyers needed to sell their Condo in Indiana before they could purchase a home in Lake Charles. For all of you who don't know the Indiana market was one that was depressed values.  Because the buyers were not able to buy until their Condo sold, they ended up renting a house in the meantime.

As the Christmas holiday approached, I arrived at my desk one December afternoon to discover someone had dropped off a "basket of goodies" for me!  I am talking about real homemade goodies, you know the good stuff, fudge, cookies, pralines!  I had no clue who it was from until I opened the card to read that it was from Carla (the wife) who I had spent several days with.  As I gobbled up the goodies I couldn't help but think I must have done a good job or at least made an impression for them to remember me during Christmas!

Fast forward to May of this year....  One day I got an email from this couple asking me if it was too soon to look at houses because their lease would be up in July, they had SOLD their Condo in Indiana(at a loss I might add) and were now ready to BUY!  So we began looking and they decided that they wanted to purchase a historic home in the Charpentier District of Lake Charles. The initial Relocation Company was no longer involved, the buyers were on their own and would incur their own closing costs.  Finally, after looking at many historical homes, they decided on this charming house, Pujo StreetI wrote an offer on July 9th and we closed July 28th!  Just in time for them to move their POD!

Understanding the biology of fruit and how it flowers and reproduces is an amazing thing to remind of us growing fruit in our own lives, careers, families, etc.
