The John C. Campbell Folk School located in Brasstown, NC is a wonderful place to learn and experience all about our mountain heritage. We are truly fortunate to have talented performers and teachers come here and Aubrey Atwater is among them that will be at the Folk School during the month of August. Atwater presents a captivating program of traditional and original folk music performed on guitar, Appalachian mountain dulcimer, Irish tin whistle, mandolin, feet, and old-time banjo. She entwines a moving explanation of the music with stories from her life and musical journey. Aubrey's love of music extends beyond the sound alone. Her pursuit is to understand folk music as an expression of human history and a glimpse into the lives of "ordinary" people.

Clogging ClassAugust 6–8, 2010
The joy we feel when we hear old-time music makes us want to dance, and that's exactly what you'll be doing with just one clogging step under your belt. Clogging, also known as flatfooting, jigdancing, or buckdancing, is a percussive form of dance that precedes tap. Enjoy live music while learning steps the instructor acquired from masters in Appalachia and elsewhere. Beginners welcome, but basic physical fitness is needed.
The many musical possibilities of the mountain dulcimer are part of its beauty. Moving at a comfortable pace, the dulcimer will be approached from a variety of angles: singing and playing chords, tunings, using the traditional noter, strumming, fingerpicking, flatpicking, and any other topics that "happen" as a result of group chemistry. You'll depart full of new ideas!
