It used to be that these people were treated like outsiders and non-consumers.  No more.  Now they are called Visionaries.   And rightly so!

The housing slump non-withstanding,  people who are selling Eco-friendly houses are seeing Green.

California, New Mexico, and Arkansas, among others, are states that now sell 'ecologically correct' homes at a faster rate than regular ones.

Environmentalist have asked builders and architects to construct Eco-friendly homes and apartments.  Brad Pitt, for example, has been on the forefront of this cause for at least 3 years now.

With more than a 1,000,000 new homes built in the United States every year, the effect on natural ecosystems and wildlife is tremenduos.

But the issue is not about the houses being build.  It's not even about their size and their cost.

Truly, Home Purchasers have become smarter to the ways of Environmentalism.  The big picture includes Energy Efficiency, Carbon Footprints, Natural Allergies, Health Concerns, and Sustainability.

Which brings me to this:  Just by making your house a little greener, you can increase its value and make it a  more attractive  prospect for today's savvy consumers.

As Realtors, let us study what our brothers and sisters are doing in the "Greener" states.

There is no reason why the Orange state can't go Green.  Ha!

Best of luck and go Green.

Yes - hopefully the orange state will get more green!  The rate of growth and development in Florida is alarming.  It seems developers have few requirements which encourage "green" development.  I was amazed to recently hear that new high-rise condo. developments in my city aren't even required to provide recycling receptacles.

Douglas, It will be interesting as other areas of the country are built up, if homes in States with dwindling populations will recycle the "extra" homes.

Seems like the eco-friendly home is a new trend.

Christina - new trend, old desire. Homes that are pollutant free and safe for the whole family.  Only an eco-nut would have wanted something like that in the 60's.  Now, with all the asthma and allergies, it seems to be the only solution.

The real trend is to sell homes in a bad market economy.  What do you do?  You sell more, you sell healthy.  The people who have been reluctant to shop in the past will now be ready for people who's approach matches theirs.
