I never thought I would be writing an article about pavers. The common name for them is bricks. But I was reading some material about pavers and became engaged in learning more about the subject. My full article is posted on my website: Here is a summary:

Pavers are one of the hottest upgrades that homeowners are using today.  Many Northeast Florida, Jacksonville and Central Florida homeowners are looking for building materials to replace poured concrete in construction projects. Concrete pavers have been the material of choice for homeowners because of their versatility and good looks. Pavers give a clean ambiance while being durable in both outdoor and indoor projects. Homeowners have been choosing Pavers over poured concrete because of these characteristics.

Uses: Pavers can be used in walkways, patios, driveways, project entrances, pool decks, and playgrounds. They have almost unlimited uses in landscaping. They can be used to build grills, ring trees, retaining walls, and create layered effects.

Many do-it-yourself homeowners will enjoy the challenge of designing their projects. www.Concretenetwork.com provides some very helpful tips when designing with pavers. Some of the design considerations given are:

•·        Choose pavers that complement the stone or façade on the building

•·        Warmth is added to the appearance of a wood or stone house by using brick/concrete pavers

•·        Different textures can be combined to add interest

•·        The basket weave pattern can be used in the interior area and combined with edging that is parallel to the pathway. This is especially esthetic for long straight runs.

•·        Use two colors of pavers to provide interest in large areas

•·         Victorian style houses have curved windows and doors; use these curves in designing curved edges

•·         When designing for brick homes, use pavers lighter in color than the brick that was used on the home.

•·        Concrete pavers with 2 3/8" thickness is used for residential areas while commercial areas require pavers that are 3 1/8" thick.

My landscaping in the front of my house cried out for a major overdo. I considered payers but decided to go with limestone rock instead. After reading the articles that I used as reference material for the above article, I had the guts to try my hand at the project. It came out really pretty. I will be doing some landscaping in the back yard this coming year and will use pavers to define the flower beds. Planting a tree, consider pavers in your project.
