So I dissed Foursquare, both on Bart Wilson's Blog, and my ActiveRain Reblog of Bart's post. I'm backing up a little bit now.
I have found a practical use for Foursquare. Foursquare is my little friend, my Accountabilty Partner.
I am the Mayor of Harris Teeter at Crescent Commons in Cary, NC, and it was fun getting there. So, I think I will keep the position. Gotta check in regularly. Gotta go to HT to checkin, to do it right.
HT has one of the best salad bars in Cary, certainly the best salad bar within walking distance of Keller Williams Cary Office. And, I have been trying to lose weight. There seems to be an opportunity to multitask here.
I can never remember how many times a week I have the salad for lunch. But, if I check in on Foursquare, it keeps a History of my Checkins. And I get points. (Ever been to ActiveRain when someone got outraged over points? Points are Persuasive and Powerful!) And I now have enough Foursquare points that I was crowned "Mayor of Harris Teeter" yesterday.
I like the power and pelf! I'm keeping the throne!
And, I get to eat the salad. A good HT salad has about 16 ingredients. I'm in it for the fruit and vegetables, so I don't take any dressing. Never cared for dressing anyway.
I got tired of garbanzos, so I skip them, but I sure do like my mesculin, spinach, grape tomatoes, dried cranberries, broccoli florets, cauliflower, carrot, croutons, egg, pepperoni, cucumbers, mandarin oranges, red cabbage, soybeans, beet slices, and a couple I forget.
And at $5.99/pound, lunch runs about $6.25--$6.75, which is a bargain!
I was on this routine pretty religiously until about the first of July. And I was down 10-12 pounds. After regaining a few, I rededicated with a goal. And Foursquare and the goofy Mayoralty and Points are just the little nudge I need to keep after the salad any day I am having lunch at the office. Want to go RainMan-like into habitual on it, "Gotta Check In. Must Check In."
A practical use for Foursquare! You saw it here first on AR!
