Bruce, thanks for your encouragement...we had some pretty good traffic last weekend! BTW, I was up till the wee hours due to my "moonlighting" volunteer job as webmaster for a dog rescue group and I was putting together a brand new website for them with online applications (for adoption, fostering, etc.) Perhaps something to write about in a future post...I'd love to give them all the publicity I can! :)

It's actually a nationwide rescue organization for the breed of dogs we have, the Cane Corso. I'll post about it separately (to give 'em Google Juice) but the website I created (originally back in 2002, which I just now re-did) is CaneCorsoRescue.org.

Leilani, do you have a pic of your dog?

Help me out here. Is a bullmastif a Cane Corso? The drawing on your web site looked like the BullMastiff shown in the first picture. Not really familiar with any of these guys; to me they look like a pit bull.

I take it they are used for some purpose that people abandon them by droves(I understand the greyhound adoptions), but can you fill me in?

Bruce, here is my baby at almost 7 years of age:

He was the #1 Cane Corso in 2004, a National Specialty winner, Canine Good Citizen, Certified Therapy Dog and scored "Excellent" on the ATTS (American Temperament Test Society) Temperament Test. He is quite "exceptional" and definitely a once-in-a-lifetime type dog. He is also the dog featured at the top our breed's website - CaneCorso.com :)

A Bullmastiff is a different breed than the Cane Corso, but they are both in the "mastiff" family. The biggest reasons there are rescues today are: 1) Unethical breeders, 2) Irresponsible owners and 3) Breed popularity - too much, too fast. Mostly, it is reason #1. :(
