Lose it BEFORE You Move It

By
Real Estate Agent with Florida Homes Realty and Mortgage

I've been fortunate to help a lot of people move this summer.  Not that I'm actually doing the moving, of course, but assisitng in the buying and selling of a number of homes in St Augustine.  I'm sure your customers, like mine find preparing to move to be quite stressful and overwhelming.  Especially trying to figure out what to do with all ofmoving Homes in St. Augustine their "stuff"

Here is my suggestion....Lose it BEFORE you List it.  I have a friend, Brenton Fraizer, who is the DeClutter Diva of St. Augustine, who says "All that jumble saps your energy, but you can get a jump-start on clearing stuff out."  "If you haven’t used it in the last month or two, you probably don’t need it. Be ruthless. You may be surprised to discover that you’re beginning to enjoy this."

Releasing, letting go of, discarding, getting rid of, trashing... unnecessary stuff is a great thing to do before you even contact a real estate agent to put your home on the market. Now is the perfect time opportunity to go through this process. You can stage your home, make it look more organized and desirable as well as save money on your moving costs. Move.com offers some great suggestions on thier website: Move.com

Implement some of these ideas and as you prepare your home to put on the market,Toss it, trash it, dump it, you can do it. Just do it BEFORE you move it!

We collect so many things...it is truly hard to get rid of them, but once you get the bug...it keeps going...in a good way.

Really good suggestion...I should really pull a fake move on myself to help my own clutter a bit.

I help many people downsize as they move into retirement communities, and they are dealing with sometimes 30+ years of accumulation in one space - it takes patience, and commitment!

It is a bucket brigade to get that property sold. You the broker, agent but the right attorney, appraiser, bank, and of course flexible buyers and sellers that are on the their respective proper meds.

I agree, getting rid of "stuff" is difficult but necessary to make the move easier and especially when the client is downsizing.  Letting go is the key!  ~ Susan
