DqDo you have a DQ Lounge?  We do!

Just two blocks west of where I live (Brendan Cove) is our Dairy Queen.  We've lived at this address for about 12 years so my kids and the neighborhood kids grew up hanging out and wrecking their appetite at this Dairy Queen.  They were there so often we started referrinng to it as the DQ Lounge.  Jamison, the former owner was so good to all of our kids - and promised to rat them out to us if they were doing something we needed to know about.

I'm not a huge sweets eater, but I stopped in just days ago becasue there is a new "Waffle Crisp Blizzard" that is just so good, it's criminal.

This visit, I ended up getting my blizzard and a kid fix.   A handful of local kids, fellow graduates of Estero High Shool, a running back for the local football team and even Amy, last years Homecoming Queen stopped in for a chat.  (Amy stay off of Timmy's motorcycle, I do not approve)

Hot Eats and Cool Treats.  It's good clean fun and a great place to people watch.  The Bonita Springs Dairy Queen is located on West Terry Street. at the Albertsons & Target Plaza.

My favorite at DQ is a Blizzard but I haven't had one in a couple of years. Maybe this weekend I'll have to check it out. A cold front just came through and it's about 54 degrees outside here at the beach. Very windy and not much of an ice cream day yet.

WE have DQ in my little community outside Ann Arbor------ Saline, MI.  All the little league teams go there after their games. I have spent many evenings there. As the kids have grown up, we still go but not as much. I don't need the calories, but I usually get  a vanilla cone ( small ) dipped in chocolate. However, the other night I was craving a Blizzard Germon Chocolate, as I love coconut. Yummy, but I didn't put it in a waffle cone........nest time.

Chris

I can't believe how few soft serve ice cream places there are here in Florida!! I moved here from a place in Maine where you had to drive 30 minutes to find a traffic light and there were more soft serve places than here in Ocala. In a state mind you with only 90 days of summer.

I thought about opening a DQ myself but found a career in RE to be much less on an investment.

Chris, I used to love the Mr. Misty Float (lime) with a blob of vanilla ice cream.  We don't have one nearby (or even farby) but I've also had hankerings for a brazier burger- they were the BEST.  Some only do ice cream; my favorite DQ had the burgers, too.

Oh-h, you hit my weakness! I drive by one on a daily basis. I've been resisting those waffle sundaes - can't drive and eat them but they look so-o-o good! I did get one of the waffle blizzards and you're right - they're sinful! My usual favorite is the mocha moulatte which I can enjoy while on the go.

This one also gets the "after the game" teams.

We have one here about 15 minutes from me.  I love soft ice cream.  I've never had a blizzard.  Unfortunately (or fortuntately I supposed) a premium ice cream shoppe opened within walking distance of my office.  Their soft ice cream is to die for - way more rich than any other I've tasted.  However, if there is a Carnival of Dairy Queen contest, I will make the sacrifice and agree to participate.

I too can make the sacrifice, we have two close by!  I hate chocolate but absolutely love their vanilla malt shakes and their artic rush (slushee) drinks.. so I am in if we are doing a DQ Carnival!

As I think about it, we've always had one nearby for 20 yrs. Before that it was Baskin Robbins ...

DQ is another fast food place and if I am going to go to one of them, it will be Chick Filet or Wendy's. I really think they should ALL be avoided, but if I am out and have no time, I will do a chicken sandwich at one of these two.

If I want ice cream, I go to someplace that has homemade ice cream. I really prefer that to DQ!

Suzanne, there are no calories to count at DQ if you only go once in a while.  Sarah, I'm givin' it some thought and I'll make a post/rules later today. I have buyers I've been out with the last few days and we're going second showings today.

Chris,

About 4 years ago we got our first DQ in Hemet - it was such a treat.  After it had been opened 2 or 3 weeks my wife and I though we would check it out...we waited in line over an hour.  For Hemet, it was the most exciting thing to happen, well since Art Linkletter.

TV personality form the 1950's and 60's is the developer/spokesperson who pitched the benefits of Senior living in Hemet on the TV way back in the day...

Now Have a Blessed Day,

OK, I say Suzanne gets the Marshal Badge from now.  Calorie buster!  If you really want to do this, I will reluctantly make a trip to DQ and force myself to eat one of those sinful treats.  What are friends for if we can't make sacrifices like that?  ;)

Wow. Sure wish we had a DQ up here in Panama City area. I can remember as a kid growing up in North Miami, going to the DQ after our little league games. That was the best part of the deal since I was horrible at baseball! Maybe this new airport being built here will bring us a DQ. One can only hope.

Chris - what a great post about a slice of Americana - Yep, we've got one here and I'm a Blizzard girl myself (shhhhhhhhh don't tell Suzanne - hey wait you may have Maggie and I run an extra lap after those decadent treats) - It's usually a once a summer thing for us - not an everyday :-)

Luckily, my mother has a huge sweet tooth so she takes my kids to DQ when the mood strikes, it keeps me from eating treats there too often.  But I agree, the teens that hang there are generally well behaved - something about ice cream brings out the good in all I suppose.

When I was in HS, DQ was where the freshmen would go because it was as far as they could go walking...

everyone else went to White Castle... from ALL high schools.  There was even an annual slider eating competition....

mmmm... white castles.. were are Harold and Kumar when you need them.
