I began to read this book from the Oprah Book Club, called A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. This book is about James when he was 23. He woke up on a plane with four teeth missing his nose broke and a hole through his cheek. He had no idea where the plane was headed nor any recolection of the past two weeks. An alcoholic for ten years and a crack addict for three, checked into a treatment facility shortly after the plane had landed. He was told there he could either stop using or die before he turned 24. Its his acclaimed account of his six weeks in rehab.

I really was into this book, only to find him on Oprah, being accused of being a fake, none of what he wrote about was true or a part of his life. so i quit reading the book. Would you guys have stopped reading to or would you have finished the book not caring that it was fake.

Fiction or Non-Fiction. Who cares as long as it's a good story.

I read books all the time that are story's that someone has dreamed up and I watch movies that are put together by masterful story tellers.

If it is entertaining then why not carry on reading?

If you were enjoying it why not finish it.  And you said he was accused of it not being true.

Did he admit is was not true?  Just a question.

Yes he did admit that it wasn't true. I guess i was kinda mad at him that he had made money off people and then lied about it actually happening. That is why i did not finish the book.

Interesting ... but I think that I would want my money back in this case.

Hi Michael ~ It's an excellent book.  I could be wrong but I seem to remember it wasn't a question of being completely made up it was more that some things might have been embellished, rearranged to suit the narrative, etc. I think Oprah completely overreacted when she confronted him - it struck a bad tone I thought - reflected as badly on her as it did on him IMO.

I just started reading this book and i had heard that it was a fake. and that is why i am here. I was thinking about it and in your case if i was enjoying the book and having fun myself reading it then i would have kept going. but in your case i can see how i would have been a little frustraited with the author. but hard times have approached us and you got to do what you got to do to get the money in. yes, it wasnt right for him to do that but he is still a great author and the book is excellent. so although i dont think it was right for him to lie about the book origins i still think its a good book and i intend to finish it. Read on!
