Madget-Demolition-"My-Adventures-In-A-Salvage-Yard"-St Joseph MO

Today, I stopped and visited with Andy and Julie Madget, owners of Madget Demolition, INC.  My family has known the Madget family for 35 years or longer.

Madget Demolition & Salvage Yard

You never know what you might find in the "salvage" yard, there really is a little bit of everything.  You might be trying to fix up a house, buy some bricks to build a patio, or you might want a piece of terra-cotta to stick in your garden somewhere...you never know what you may find.

Terra-Cotta Windows

MADGET DEMOLITION INC. is a third generation demolition companythat has been demolishing commercial, industrial & residential structures that have out-lived their purpose for the past fifty years! The business was bought in 1960 by the late Bob Madget and currently is run by his son Andrew.  Andy's sons, Bobby & Tom now have joined their dad in the demolition business.

Doors

Besides the "demolition" part of the company, they have a "salvage yard" which is open to the public of used building materials for sale.

While on my adventure today, there were many unusual items that did not seem to belong in the "salvage yard".  The early 1900's organ, seemed that it should belong in a church or parlor rather than at a demolition salvage yard, as it still played almost perfectly.  The beautiful old stained glass windows seemed to be yearning for someone to display them in possibly a new construction home or displayed on a wall rather than at a demolition company's salvage yard.

Old Stained Glass & Furniture

Madget's has been at 2425 South 6th in St Josephfor over 50 years and are open Monday thru Friday from 8-4:30, and can be reached at (816) 232-6210, feel free to stop by and tell them you saw the blog on the Internet.

If you need a demolition company, Madget Demolition is the one to call, they are licensed and insured.

Dona, I hope the organ finds a home.  It would be a shame to let it go...

Sonja, The organ really is nice, if I did not already have one I might have gave it a second thought!  How bout at your house?  I'm sure they could arrange the shipping.   Instead, the terra-cotta is now at my house in the flower garden, a real conversation piece.  Have a great week!

Dona - I have been in a few salvage yards in my life, and always felt they were a kind of treasure hunt.  The stained glass windows, call out for a place to be used and seen.

Hi Dona!  What a great post!  I'd never have thought of visiting a demolition/salvage yard!  And, what treasures you found--I love that organ!  I have to go check out the stained glass windows too.

Have a wonderful weekend...

Debe:)  You do not know what you are missing, girl, if you haven't visited a salvage yard.  Lots of cool stuff for outdoors, indoors, etc.  One of my favorite places to visit in my spare time (lol)  I was actually looking for a old 5 panel door that had not been painted but instead found many other treasures.  Hope your market is showing a turnaround.

What a neat place to hang out!  I love the window...how beautiful!  The next time I"m in KC it would be worth the drive to see what I can find :)  Could be dangerous!

Elizabeth, Madget's is one of my favorite stops, yes it can be dangerous to your wallet! lol  There is always a few hidden treasures there that are rarely found at other stores.  A short drive north of KC will add a lifetime to your memory bank of some of the most beautiful architecture to be found.  Give me a call the next time you are in KC.  Have a great weekend!
