I know there are more than just a few people who accumulate points simply by reblogging other people. I've always considered it an honor when someone reblogs a post of mine, but I don't think I've ever had more than one or two posts reblogged. Maybe that says something about the quality of my writing and my posts. ☺ Anyways....
Each time the new month starts, I always wonder what new and interesting things ActiveRain will come up with to punish those who work the system and to help those who want to get more business.
Apparently, as of today, points are not awarded for reblogging anymore. Previously, both the original author and the reblogger got 25 points, which never really made sense to me. I could see giving the original author some points but why the reblogger? Anyways....
No one gets points now!

46 Comments on If you no longer got points for reblogging, would you still reblog?
Hopefully this will cut down on the point scammers. I recently was looking at one blogger who had a huge total for the number of post they had "written" and a big point total to match. Yet when I went to their blog they hadn't written a blog post in almost 2 years. They had been reblogging to the tune of 10 a day. Glad to see the point go.
Liz - A reblog never counted against your 10 blog posts in a week, so if you used a reblog as #10, you still could have done another blog post and gotten another 200 points. Go look at your point score and you'll see that a reblog never counted as 200 points.
Pay & Wayne - I did get 25 ponits for you reblogging this. Interesting. I didn't get 25 points for the reblog I did earlier today, and neither did the original author of the post I reblogged. Very interesting.
Maybe between now and me posting this earlier today, the glitch in the system was fixed, or they brought the points back for reblogging. Maybe I told them something they didn't know so they "fixed" it.
Jim, I'd still re-blog if there were no points. That isn't why I do re-blog when I do...it's the message and content and I do like the way you disable commenting to direct people back to the original post.
Jim......I think a good blog is worthy of re-blogging regardles of points. I'm not sure why a re-blog deserves points anyway.
I think getting rid of the reblog points is actually a good thing. And I think another thing AR could do to further it's resource as one chock full of good real estate info (not jokes, motivational quotes and otherwise worthless real estate posts) is to not cap the 2500 points for a AR success story with photo of the check at 2. Why cap it? Don't you want to give those that are actually getting business to the top of the heap and have them be most visible to newbies? Just a thought.
Wanda - I started disabling comments, with an introductory notice to that effect, because I noticed that people would skip right over the link, not realizing that it was a reblog, and tell the reblogger how they liked the post, the way she laid it out, etc.
Carra - I'm just glot the author doesn't get millions of points. Otherwise not of us would ever have a chance of catching up with those in front of us.
Chris Ann - I agree with not capping the number of success stories, but I've always thought that points were thrown around too freely, especially that one time when one of the ActiveRain staffers gave 10,000 points to the winner of his contest. I'd like to see any contest points be in the amount of 1,000, 500, and 250 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and anything else should be limited to 1,000.
I think points to the original author for a reblog is a good thing. But points to the reblogger? It seems some folks have become professional rebloggers just to get points. I have reblogged a few times in the 2+ years I have been on AR, but never for the points--I did it because the content was great.
Jen - The ones that really perplex me are the people from the same office who reblog each other. What's with that?
Hi Jim! I rarely re-blog unless it's something that goes along the lines of some theme that I'm working on at the time. I didn't notice the points not being there though. Also, in response to your question about reblogging others' posts from the same office, I think they do that because they think it's better SEO for them--perhaps ONE of them will capture the consumer if they're both at the top of the search engines. Be original, right?!
Debe - It seems that it was just the one post that I reblogged that didn't award any points to me or the original author. Still not sure why that happened.
Hi Jim ~ I wish the change had happened - if only because of the re-blogging careerists. I've never reblogged but I can see why people want to do it to share a post of value to their readers.
Liz
Hi Jim. I have never reblogged another post nor do I allow for reblogs of my posts. It's a personal preference but am not too annoyed with what others do. I am focused on what I am doing :)
Jim, I love it when someone re-bloggs my post I hope my word gets out with my contact information and someone will give me a Referral based on what I said or a potential principal will find me as well. The way there are some people Re-blogging I do not think they got the word about the points:))
Hi Jim - In all my time here in AR, I have reblogged only about a dozen posts (maybe less). What is disappointing to me is when I get a comment on my blog and try to reciprocate on a post the commenter has written, and I can't find one. Their entire blog is nothing but reblogs. I think reblogging is good, but I want to see some original content from everyone too.
Susan, I agree with you, although I do not have such high standards as you I do not expect Oringinal content from Everyone:))) Just a few.LOL
I would reblog no matter what. The only time I reblog, I am reblogging for content. It is something I find interesting enough that I think my readers would find informative or helpful. For me it has nothing to do with points.
Elizabeth - I like to return comment for comment, but that is difficult to do for the career rebloggers since I typically don't comment on the reblog, preferring to go straight to the original author and comment there.
Lana - That's a good system, but what if you find good information. Do you just write your own blog post using the other post as a guide?
Endre - I think some people reblog because they don't think they can write well. You'll never know until you try.
Susan - That's my feeling, too, and notwithstanding the number of points that a career reblogger might have, I'm not sure I would refer them if all they do is reblog stuff.
Debra - The points are icing on the cake, though!
