Everest Park Kirkland Washington
Everest Park in Kirkland Washington really has all you could hope for in a park. First of all - it is huge! 21.51 acres in all. So it has the space to provide a lot of different amenities, and still give the feel of being uncrowded.
This year (2010) there was a very special event at the park. The Little League Junior Softball World Series was held there again. The middle of August, from the 15th to the 21st Kirkland played host and Everest Park was the place. That event was such a big deal the championship game was on ESPN. All the games were broadcast as a webcast.
The tournament is held every year, and is one of eight World Series sponsored by the Little League Baseball. It is a true "world" series, since participating teams come from all over the world.
This park has not one, but four baseball diamonds. All four diamonds have manicured lawns, raked sand, and full sets of bleachers and dugouts. No wonder the World Series Little League Baseball is held here!
The baseball fields are surrounded by trees in the middle of the Everest neighborhood. Everest runs from NE 70th St to 85th St and from the I5 freeway to the railroad tracks.
There is also a very nice tennis court off to one side, surrounded by trees. Although there is only one court, I can hardly imagine a nicer place to play tennis.
The children’s play set is very complete, and has activities that are suited to older children. There are also park benches for parents to sit on and visit while the children are playing.
A small roofed structure for a picnic area stands between the baseball diamonds, and off by itself, a large gazebo for a gathering of family and friends. There is also a basketball court.
There is a concession stand and bathrooms in the middle of the baseball diamonds.
A large forested area stands between the park and the freeway, but I did not take the time to discover whether there are walking trails in there. It appears from the map that there are walking trails in there.
There are two entrances off of 8th Street South, and both entrances lead to large parking lots, one toward the south end of the park, and one toward the north end.
What could you do if you had over twenty acres in the middle of a neighborhood?
Everest Park is the answer to that question. A large suburban park that provides for almost every activity, and all less than a mile from downtown Kirkland.
