Dual Monitors? Let the Photoblogging Good Times Roll!

As much as I love tabbed browsing in Internet Explorer, it can be a nuisance when pulling information from one tab to another.
Open tab. Copy. Open original tab. Paste.
If you get enough tabs open, it is easy to lose track of which tab you are looking for, even which window that tab may be in.

Enter the concept of dual monitors.

I spent most of today rearranging the desk and setting up the system.
With a video card that natively supports two monitors, and, of course, two monitors, I can open a window in each monitor and drag information from one window to another, screen to screen, with relative ease.

In the photo, I have Flickr open, and that lets me open up a photo, grab the HTML code for embedding into a blog.

And I tend to do things when they are easy, so here we are.

And, shooting the photo with the Evo and uploading to Flickr with two clicks is about as easy as it gets!
Loving that 4G network when it is available. It is a litle spotty across Cary, but when it is on, it is on!

Mike,

This looks intriguing. What video card did you use?

Mike - did you have to purchase a new video card?  If so what one did you buy? Thanks for the info and the blog post. Steve

Richard and Steve,

It is an Ati Radeon 4670HD that came with both my two new desktops a year ago. I am just finally setting up dual monitors.

The card has two DVI outs on the card, which are key.  It is nothing fancy, as the Radeon 4670 was introduced in 2008.  But it works well for me.  If I cared about power-gaming, I would have to be looking at something bigger and better.

The stand is one I bought online that is rated for 2 22" monitors.  The monitor on the left is a 25.5" 1920x1200 Asus VW266H and the one on the right is a Dell S2009W 20" 1600x900 display.  The stand is groaning.

The 2nd monitor will let me leave my email up all the time, and that is how I saw both of you commented.  Thanks!

Bill,

I think I am going to like it.

I have another S2009W monitor that I may carry down to the office and set up with the 22" monitor I have there already.  Probably can't get much for them on Craigslist, so I may as well use them.

Probably way too techie for me, but a great idea. If I could find that much room on my desk and ever really get into my camera, I'll have to give it a try!

Linda,

Heck, you can do it.  I thought it would be tougher, and it actually was very easy.

The stand that bolts to the back of the desktop and holds the monitors 6"--8" off the desk actually made me more desktop space!

I used to have a system with 4 monitors that you could click and drag between screens.  Back in my telecom days

I often wish I had several monitors.

That is one of the coolest thiings!  Not just drag and drop on one, but drag across the desk and drop.  Completely out of this world.

I've usually have my laptop and my desktop open at the same time, but I can't transfer files easily. I'm going to try setting up dual monitors for my desktop. Thanks for the info.
