Great Golf Courses in Denver
Summertime is almost coming to an end. In Denver there are close to 360 days of sunshine which makes playing golf excellent. Our snow doesn't usually start until October but until then it's a pleasure to play with the Rocky Mountains as a background, cool temperatures and sunshine,
A Rocky Mountain outdoor paradise, with abundant hiking, fishing, skiing and rafting possibilities, it's no surprise that Denver also offers acres of world-class fairway. One of the oldest golf courses in Denver (and affordable, with green fees starting at $17), the Overland Golf Course was first opened in 1895. Across the street from the Denver Museum of Natural History, Denver's downtown public golf course, City Park Golf Course, features soaring views of the Denver cityscape from its nearly 6,500 feet of track. That said, we've saved the best for last: The Ridge at Castle Pines North, an award-winning, picture-perfect and internationally acclaimed Denver golf course studded with tall pines and rock features and just a half an hour drive from downtown Denver.
City Park Golf Course 2500 York St., Denver, CO 80205; Tel. 303.295.2095 Denver's downtown course, this par-72 6,318 yard track features views of the Denver skyline, tight fairways and well-placed bunkers. After your round, head across the street and check out the Denver Museum of Natural History. Green fees won't exceed $20. |
Foothills Golf Course 3901 S. Carr St., Denver CO 80235; Tel. 303.989.3901 This Denver municipal course is the most heavily played in the area. It's a test from the back tees, measuring 6,908 yards. Robert Bruce Harris designed the course, which opened in 1933. Green fees are in the $13-$24 range. |
Omni Interlocken Resort Golf Club 800 Eldorado Blvd., Broomfield CO 80021; Tel. 303.464.9000 This Denver area golf facility is a four-and-a-half star golf destination just 15 miles from downtown Denver. A perennial mention in Golf Digest's well-maintained course category, Interlocken is all about luxury, featuring three sets of 9 holes: the Eldorado, the Sunshine and the Vista. All three can be played in combination, with yardage from the tips measuring between 6,800 and 7,200 yards with each pairing. Overland Golf Course 1801 S. Huron St., Denver CO 80223; Tel. 303.777.7331. Originally the Denver Country Club, this Denver golf course first opened in way back in 1895. Only 6,312 yards from the tips, Overland Golf Course features mature trees and tight fairways offering a challenge to everyone's golf game. Bunkers are the key hazard on most holes, however. Green fees are in the $17-$21 range. |
The Ridge at Castle Pines North - Denver.com Editor's Pick 1414 Castle Pines Pkwy., Castle Rock CO 80104; Tel. 303.688.0100 Another four-and-a-half star public course outside of Denver, The Ridge is one of those 'must play' golf courses. Operated by internationally renowned Troon Golf Corp., The Ridge is a Denver golf course built expertly around elevation changes and views of the Rockies. The course measures 7,013 yards from the tips and muscles challenge after challenge on every hole. Postage-stamp greens necessitate well-placed approaches from tightly cut fairways. This Denver golf course wins awards every year for its service, conditions and overall play. Green fees are in the $75-$100 range. |
Willis Case Golf Course 4999 Vrain St., Denver CO 80212; Tel. 303-455-9801Situated on rolling hills just outside downtown Denver, this municipal Denver golf course requires accurate tee shots and careful approaches. Trees and bunkers come into play on every hole, and if those aren't enough, the views of metropolitan Denver are also quite distracting. The Denver course measures 6,306 from the tips and green fees are in the $20 range. |
