Ihttp://activerain.com/fit2sellt has been a long, hot summer and it's time for a cool break.

So, by popular demand inspired by my "Do You Do The DQ Lounge?"  about the Bonita Springs Dairy Queen we're throwing a carnival!

It seems everyone has an opinion about their local ice cream shop, be it Dairy Queen, Baskin & Robbins, Ben & Jerry's or a "Mom & Pop" roadside scoop.  So here's the skinny on the contest:

  1. Treat your friend, friends, family or yourself to ice cream at your favorite ice cream shoppe.  In honor of Suzanne, no calories count during this Carnival. (Optional)
  2. Write a blog about you favorite Ice Cream joint.
  3. Title the blog:  "name of the ice cream store" "city name" - "The Real Scoop"  For Example:  Ben & Jerry's Bonita Springs - The Real Scoop
  4. Add at least one photo of the establishment.
  5. Include map links to where it's located, how to get there.
  6. Include links to any nearby conviences you may have blogged about in the past.
  7. Add your favorite ice cream or treat that the establishment offers.
  8. In addition to your own tags, use the tag "The Real Scoop".
  9. Post a link to your post in the comments section of this post.
  10. For extra points:  Visit Ralph Nudi's blogabout his son eating ice cream.  If you post on Ralph's blog, let the judges know by commenting "nudi" on this post for your extra points.

I wrote a blog about my local Ben & Jerry'ssince I already blogged the DQ Lounge.  Use it as your example.  It is a MINIMALISTIC example of what can be blogged.  I encourage additions and creativity.

Ben & Jerry's Bonita Springs - The Real Scoop

The contest starts now and ends August 27th (2007) at 12:00 noon Eastern time.

The whole panel of judges are to be announced.  It will include fellow bloggers from Active Rain and offline judges.  So far I have secured one of the two "guest judges" who will be offline "innocent bystanders" and will be reading your posts from the same standpoint the public that will be reading blog.

The object of an offline personality is so that each blog can be critiqued from the eye of a person that:

  1. Doesn't know the blogger.
  2. Doesn't know the city.
  3. Doen't know the ice cream shoppe.
  4. Doesn't have a "personality favorite" on Active Rain.

So turn it out and present it so a person that is new to the area can find it and enjoy your favorite Ice Cream spot.

Now for the prizes.  I'd like to ask for no help from the moderators or Active Rain admins for:

  • 1st:  0 points
  • 2nd  0 points
  • 3rd  0 points

In addition, I will be offering my own gift.  To be mailed to the winner.  A total crap shoot or gold mine; bet on the crap shoot.

Suzanne, maybe your husband can "guest blog" for you this week.

Jennifer, off to Brusters!  We used to have one but it is closed.  I loved vanilla ice cream with wet walnuts at Brusters.  I can't wait for your fave.

Well, I guess it's just you kids.  The moderators and administrators aren't playing.  The star flickered and I guess it will be a word of mouth carnival.  Please tell anyone you think is a worthy participant.

Chris - where do you get all your ideas for contests?

One year at NAR I matched the Ben and Jerry's cards (each person got one B&J word and had to find the mate - i.e., you have Cherries and I have Garcia). I won a year's supply of ice cream (their idea of a year's supply - 52 coupons for a quart of B&J.)  It was a fun win and a creamy year!

Hi Chris - you should have some good entries from New Englanders, I would think.  Every study I've seen on ice cream consumption seems to always show that New Englanders eat far more ice cream per year that people from anywhere else.  I can't really think of an ice cream shop here in my area - we just buy all our ice cream from the grocery stores, I guess.

Sharon, I just thought everyone has an ice cream store and it would be a great way for people to write a blog about their area.  Unfortunately, the powers that be didn't.  I welcome posts but it looks like the bloggers should do it more for their own satisfaction.

Hi Chris -

It is a good idea-  the feedback you've gotten so far should back that up.

Well, I've got 2 stores to choose from... this may require some extensive reasearch- life IS tough.

I am so in.  Cows and Cones just opened within walking distance of my home and my office.  I'm rather surprised the moderators don't like this one - it is perfect for localism.  Oh well, more stuff for Carnac at the end of the month.

Maybe I should rename it "Carnival of freezer burnt ice cream".  Carnac can really have a lick at that!

I'm still trying to understand.  It's got photos, maps, links, local stuff plus a few scoops.  What's the problem?  No wonder so many of my favorites are slowly leaving.

Ok - enough negativity.  Let's have fun without moderation!  I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!!!   I'm going golfing this afternoon, a stop on the way home is in my future.  Speaking of future, you always seem to give Carnac good material.

Chris, I went to Ralphs blog on his little boy. I also emailed him several months ago to see what was up ?

Hope this loors him back in. Oh yea, I notice the no points but hey it's the first carnival I've ever entered so my post is almost ready, just checking back in to make sure I hit all your requirements.

P.S. I thought it was a fun idea and good for localism too !!

I usually will not compete in something like this (not a competition blogger)  but I love blogging about ice cream so I am in.  Gotta go take the photos, eat the ice cream...

It's a great time of year for localism posts on ice cream.

My research is going really slowly.  I still have several flavors to try before I can write a full report.  I'm taking this very seriously.

Maureen and Linda;  maybe the judges will award extra points for your extensive "research".  They may at their option, disqualify anyone that eats sherbet.

How about sorbet?  I love it when there is Raspberry Sorbet in the freezer.  I personally don't eat it myself nor will I burst into song at an ice cream parlor when I see raspberry sorbet on the menu ... I'm truly shy and a shitty singer to boot but I love to sing "the artist fomerly known as Prince" and I believe again known as Prince's hit song 'Raspberry Sorbet' in private.

Mine is up without a photo and the map does not show.  It did until I tried to add the photo or what is holding the place for the photo....  Now we see why I do not do blog competitions, carnivals etc..
