LOUDOUN COUNTY AND VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ANNOUNCEMENT ON BRIDGES
The Virginia Department Of Transportation has recently inspected bridges in Loudoun County and
made the public announcement that the bridges are safe.
Bridge over Goose Creek on Dulles Greenway
Nine bridges in Loudoun County are defined as "structurally deficient", but according to VDOT, the bridges that are open are safe for driving. Five of the nine defined a structurally deficient have been determined to be "functionally obsolete", defined by AAA as requiring significant maintenance and repair to remain in service.
1. Featherbed Road at Catoctin Creek
2. Hughesville Raod over Crooked Run
3. Forest Mills Road over a tributary of Crooked Run
4. Sunny Ridge over the south fork of Catoctin Creek (closed) See above, replaced by culvert
5. Snickersville Road over Beaverdam Creek (closed)

Loudoun County has 437 bridges and 16 percent are considered functionally obsolete, but safe.
Wear and tear on bridges in Loudoun County and Loudoun County roads is understandable following the
explosion of housing construction and population growth in the county in the past 10 years.
The bridges considered "functionally obsolete" are all in rural areas, not high density residential areas.
