Motivational Power Quote

The Relationship Changes When We Are Lied To

"I'm not upset that you lied to me,

I'm upset that I can't believe you."

Friedrich Nietzsche, German scholar

As I see it. . . . . . . .

The relationship changes when we are lied to

The moment we are lied to everything in the relationship changes. That person can no longer be seen as trustworthily and we are not able to rely on.

Our confidence level in that person drops and we will longer have confidence in that person. If we continue to associate with that person we may be painted with the same bush by others and our reputation can be tainted as well.

The person that lies to us made a choice, and now we have a choice to make.

Trust is HUGE and once that is violated....you are sooo right...the relationship is forever changed...and getting it...earning it back is very difficult...as it should be.

Pretty powerful statements. Trust is certainly key in most relationships. The cold hard truth may hurt, but at least people can deal with it and move on.

It does change, but can change again if enough positive and honest exchanges ensue.

Hi Lou, You are right - when trust is betrayed and a person is lied to it can certainly change the dynamics of a relationship.  Confidence in that person can drop immensely.

As far as I am concerned, there is no longer a relationship!  Trust, to me, is #1, above all else. If it's not there, what else is important?
