Yes folks, you read that right. Two small towns on Lake Erie, Canadian side (of course), Port Burwell and Port Stanley are aggressively lobbying the Elgin Military Museum in St. Thomas which has already acquired the decommissioned submarine HMCS Ojibwa from the Canadian Navy.
They plan to save the submarine
from the naval scrapyard and tow it to their community and use it as a tourist attraction which would not only employ an estimated 40+ people but attract 100,000 visitors as well.
I should point out to The US Homeland Security that we will be no threat to America for the following reasons:
- Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes, so you will see us coming 40 miles away
- Being full of asbestos, the crew are breathing in their last gasps, and won't make it to Ohio
- You are our friends and neighbours and its nice to have a big brother around
- We have no torpedoes but we have Canadian beer, we'll lull you into thinking we are nice, polite and kind.
So Lake Erie residents,
you can now go asleep peacefully that I have made the powers to be aware of a possible battle and if everyone takes action, this should be solved in 25 or so years!

Ty, you're "Southern" neighbors might just come visit to check out this submarine and partake of the beers you mentioned....good luck and hope you get it there!
Stephanie:
Our welcome mat or should I say "dock" will be ready.
Ty
Thanks for reassuring big brother that there's no harm intended by acquiring this treasure.
I'd hate to hear that either Canadian Ports were rudely awoken one night by a US troop invasion looking to procure a weapon of mass destruction....Haha...I crack myself up LOL
This is too funny!
I will let my son Michael know of the conflict. He has just joined our proud Navy (Canadian Forces) on their 100th anniversary. So proud of him, now I here there's trouble... oh no.
Ty,
very interesting and funny too. I suppose I should have asked the colour!
Brian
Too funny. Bring the beer and throw is some chicken wings on a Football Sundary, and we will never know what happens! ha
Aaron
When I was much younger I would sometimes park down by the water with a date and watch the submarine races. Some nights there would be lots of cars there. ;-)
Actually, Port Stanley and Port Burwell are not lobbying the Canadian Navy. They are lobbying the Elgin Military Museum in St. Thomas which has already acquired the submarine from the Navy. St. Thomas being too far from Lake Erie, the Museum is looking for a suitable location on the shore of the lake.
Pam:
You never know where one thing can lead to another, one submarine here, one there, one pontoon boat here, one over there...........

Sergio: All the best for your son in his naval career, I have quite a few ex-navy friends and if they are an example of what our Canadian Navy exemplifies, your son will do fine.
Ty
Brian: For obvious reasons, privacy act and National Security will prevent me from disclosure.
Ty
PS: I propose yellow and have the volunteer crew have Beatle haircuts and sing, it would attract an extra 100,000.
Aaron: Good idea, I'll send you an invite
Ty
Larry: Now that is funny!
Ty
Donald. thank you for the correction, I had taken literary laziness by not crediting the museum with that fact and enlightening my blog by substituting the Canadian Navy.
All the best in finding a home for the sub.
Ty
We shold try to sell the submarine to the British to make up for the ones they sold us a few years ago that never worked.
Hi Ty -- What a fun post, and being a Clevelander who lives 14 miles from Lake Erie, I'm all for you guys having this sub. I spent 4 years in the Navy (surface ships only) and signed up for subs but was lucky enough not to get chosen (in retrospect).
Malcolm: That would be so un-Canadian, wouldn't it. Aren't we known as turning the other cheek and getting a kick in the rear?
Chris: If I hear of any threat to Cleveland, I'll send you a quick email or blog about it.
Ty
The funny thing about this article is that I was at the Cleveland Air Show yesterday and U.S. Customs had shown up walking around mysteriously. My Uncle had told me that he a heard a rumor going around that U.S. Customs has been on the lookout for two-man submarines transporting illegal narcotics into Ohio. So I searched to see if I could find anything that would prove this rumor correct and I found this.
Sonny: Port Burwell will be the location of the sub and Elgin County used to grow alot of tobacco so maybe!
