Dean strengthened into the Atlantic's first hurricane of the season on Thursday and the center is 565 miles from Kingston, Jamaica. It is now a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale and may strengthen into a Category 5 storm throughout the weekend.
As the storm treks along its path, a hurricane warning has been issued for Jamaica and remains in effect for the south coast of the Dominican Republic and parts of Haiti.
