It’s hard to sell real estate when the temperature is “sweltering!”

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

It has been a hot and muggy summer in Newnan GAIt has been one hot summer here in Newnan Georgia. There have been more ninety degree plus day this year than in any previous year that I can recall.

And when you add in the extremely high humidity, the so-called “heat index” has been over a hundred degrees for many days in a row. Yesterday, as the sweat was pouring as I installed yard signs on my new listings, the word “sweltering” popped into my head.

I never really thought much of the word ‘sweltering,” but the use of the term in describing our climatic condition has never been more appropriate.

It’s miserable outside. Even more depressing is the fact that the long range forecast calls for more of the same.

And so as air-conditioners whirl and fans spin, one looks to the outside world with trepidation.

Because it’s really sweltering out there!

LOL- OH THOSE SIGNS!!!  They always push me over the edge.

I hate installing those open house directional signs in the heat, then having to work the open house all sweaty, with my hair frizzy and crazy.

We've been experiencing a heat wave here too.

Dorie...

The only pleasant day we had was the Fourth of July, which worked out for all of the festivities. Other than that it's been hot, hot, hot! Thanks my friend.

Lenn...

It just drains you, doesn't it? THX

Ed...

And you always gotta wonder how you smell. Thanks!

Noah...

We show mostly foreclosures that feel more like pizza ovens than homes. Thank you for the comment.

Heather...

Am you just feel icky! Thank you for adding to the conversation.

Richard, I started my real estate career in northern Minnesota, selling lakeshore properties. Very nice but they are all under 2 feet (at least) of ice and snow with sub zero temps for a good  (read bad) part of the year. I moved to Seattle for year around work and never looked back.

Ugh, the heat here has been unbearable.  We have extremely high heat along with humidity so it is a double wham!

It has been a warm one that is for sure.  I think it's the humidity that has not let up that is really getting to us.

As a read this I am still recovering from my morning run. Five miles starting at 545am. Even at that unholy hour it was muggy hot. After 7am it is downright dangerous to run.

Thank goodness we're getting a break from our run of sweltering heat.  Now we're dealing with humidity.  The combination is unbearable.

It's definitely been a hot summer so far.with no let up in the near future. But, what's been tougher for me, was opening my utilities bill this month!

Richard - I haven't felt this uncomfortable with the heat and humidity since monsoon season in Malaysia. My A/C is working overtime, and the bills are showing it.

Richard - Thank you for making me thankful, yet again, that Colorado doesn't bake to quite the same degree as the rest of the country.  As I read your post I kept thinking, however, of how difficult it is to show property when it's hidden by a foot of snow or even better, the day after the snow when you have to swim through all of the muddy slushy puddles.  Either way I think it balances out.

Here's hoping that your world cools down and your market heats up accordingly!

The humdity around here is just awful this year. My windows are fogged everywhere. And showing property is a lesson in how to hold your composure when dripping wet . Its a challenge

The temps here are also sweltering.  I tell sellers if they're out now, they're serious buyers.

If you live in Texas and near the coast then you know what a lobster feels like right before he is steamed to your dinner plate!

I had to remind my daughterr not to leave her new lap top in the truck because the heat index gets up to 105+ inside a vehicle when closed up! As a matter of fact we Texans most of the time during the summer leave our window cracked by 4 or 5 inches to insure that the window will not bust due to high heat temperatures!

Where are you my sweet Texas winter?

Coming to you from Texas...
