It's amazing to get away from the bright lights of the big cities or even smaller suburbs or even rural towns if you will.
As I was leaving my Auntie's farm last night - just outside of San Ignacio, Belize - I could not help but notice the big bright stars in the dark sky. They seemed to cover me like a blanket. And they felt close, like you could reach out and grab a handful. For a moment I thought I was back in the United States at the planetarium. You know the place you went with your 6th grade class on a field trip to see the stars and study astronomy. The room was dark and cold from the air conditioning. And as you looked up in the artificial sky you had the illusion of the stars becoming a 3-D experience.
Well Mom and Dad had to pay for that experience at the planetarium since it was a field trip and all. But WOW! Here in Belize the big bright stars are just part of the everyday nightscape - An amazing experience to actually be able to see the stars well enough to watch them twinkle.
Oh and I cannot forget the shooting star. It was a long fall in the night sky and a great wish upon the horizon.........
