The Ballard Locks - hard to explain, but basically Lake Union is higher than the Puget Sound so boats passing between the two bodies of water must be raised and lowered depending on which way they are This is a great place to see wonderful boats of all kinds. There is also a Salmon fish ladder on site and a huge park with tons of plants and flowers - really nice for a whole day! And.... FREE
Sunset Hill Park - I love this lookout over the Puget Sound and it also happens to be the place where my husband proposed to me. You can read about that here in a Seattle Times article if you are curious.
Rain City Video - Want to see a movie? This is the place to rent it!
Market Street: Just stroll down Ballard's main drag for anything at all that you want! Movie theatee, Cupcake Royale, Thai, more - This is Ballard!

Ballard is a great neighborhood, the locks and golden gardens are must see's in my book.
I love the Locks, too:) I like Golden Gardens, but like driving a tiny bit North to Carkeek Park so my kiddie can play in the Salmon fish slide!
Nice post, Courtney. I have watched the boats in the Locks, and have been on one a few times going through the Locks. It is always great experience and a lot of fun.
I have noticed that Ballard has changed a lot just like most neighborhoods in Seattle.
