In my comments, someone recently asked me how I added the social media buttons in my signature and I had to truthfully say that I couldn't remember how it was done but that I remembered it being a pain in the #$$.
Completely coincidentally, I was adding buttons to my Chattanooga Real Estate News site that very same day. I KNOW! What are the odds?
Upon reflection, one of two things has happened: 1. It magically got easier to do it, or 2. I learned some html coding in between which made it SEEM like it magically got easier to do it.
I'm betting on #2.
So here it is, everything you always wanted to know about adding social media buttons. The same coding can be used to turn any image into a link either within the same site (like the buttons at the bottom of my profile that go to my home search functions) or to another site (like the social media buttons in my signature).
Without further ado, here is the coding you can cut and paste:
<a title="What is should say when the mouse is held over it" href="http://www.WhereYouWantItToLinkTo.com"><img src="http://www.WhereOnTheWebTheImageIsStored.jpg" alt="" /></a>
All you need to do is open up the html window instead of WYSIWYG or Visual (depending on what site you are using), paste that coding into the window and then change out the specifics within the quotation marks, making sure that you keep the quote marks. Whatever image you want to use as your button, whether it be a social media button or an actual picture, must be able to be found somewhere on the interwebs. Preferably somewhere that isn't subject to pilfering and removal by someone other than yourself.
The only thing you are going to change on the coding is what is between the quotation marks. Inside the a title= quotes you will put exactly what you want to pop up when a visitor holds their mouse over the button. Inside the href= quotes you are going to put the exact link you want the button to take your visitor to. Inside the img src= quotes, you are going to put the exact link where you have uploaded the image.
Once you switch back to visual or WYSIWYG, you should have a button that links to where you want it to go.
Easy peasy! Sort of like this:
