Friday, August 6. First Friday Book Club. Lovers of literature and art alike engage in lively book discussions while enjoying appetizers and libations. Gain more insight with a tour through the art galleries based on the book, “Vanished Smile: The Mysterious Theft of Mona Lisa” by R.A. Scotti. $15 per session / $12 for members. 7-9 pm. Friday August 6-Sunday, August 8. HONK! Jr.! HONK! Junior is a contemporary musical retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's classic story, "The Ugly Duckling" and features an upbeat score that audiences of all ages will enjoy. This production comes to life through the talents of 46 amazing young actors ranging in age from kindergarten through high school. Visit the Columbia Children's Theatre for more information.

Saturday, August 7. Bon Voyage, Adios and Au Revoir! Pack your bags as we explore different countries around the world through language, stories and crafts. Saturday, August 7. Brew at the Zoo! Guests ages 21 and up will walk through the Zoo with their souvenir tasting glass, sampling from specialty domestic, import and microbrews. Concession stands will be open around the park with a variety of food available for purchase. Brew-goers can also look forward to scheduled animal presentations and encounters throughout the park!  Sunday, August 8. Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival. At the Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival, you will enjoy a side-by-side tasting of commercially bred vs. locally grown heirloom varieties, a Homegrown Tomato Contest with local foodie celeb judges, live music, a cash bar, tomato bobbing, a "Chuck the Commercial Tomato" distance throwing contest, and share in a Tomato Recipe Showcase potluck supper. 6-9 pm | City Roots Farm | 1005 Airport Blvd. Visit Slow Food Columbia or call 528-4481 for more information.

Monday, August 9. Summer Star Labs. Learn about constellations and the summer night sky in these 30 minute portable planetarium shows at 11am. $3 in addition to general admission. Visit the SC State Museum for additional information.

Tuesday, August 10. “Cafe Scientifique”. Come explore the latest ideas in science and technology...in plain 'ole English. August's topic is 'Tracking Mother Nature in the Midlands: Beyond the Weather Small Talk'. Eat, drink and talk science with speakers from the National Weather Service's Columbia Forecast Office.  Opening Wednesday, August 11. The Paradise Key. Trustus proudly presents the winner of the Trustus Playwrights' Festival! It is August, 1951. In the sweaty back room of a U.S. Army safe house, hidden deep in the Florida Keys, a young American Counter-Intelligence agent named David has brought in a special subject for an interview - a German medical doctor named Halb. Over the course of one night, David must find this formula hidden inside Halb's head, or risk an American disaster. Runs through Saturday, August 14.
