Twitter-Dee or Twitter-Dum?

I would not call myself a Twitter Expert, By any means.  In fact, I probably fall into the Twitter-Dum category... easily!  I joined Twitter about 2 years ago, and started actually tweeting last year after attending ReBAR Camp in Raleigh.  Still didn't really get it.  Actually, I still don't quite get it, but I do get one thing.  The power of an AR generated Short URL!  My suggestion to all of you is to:

  • Post Hyper-Local Posts to Activerain (or whatever blogging platform you choose).
  • Generate a short URL code (easy peasy on AR)
  • Tweet about the event or whatever it is and add the short URL code
  • Wait for the followers to come in!

Like I said, I am no Twitter Expert.  I don't even understand how it works.  But..... I have found that everytime I tweet using a short URL from a Hyper-Local Post on AR, I get followers on Twitter.  The followers are local residents, business owners, magazine editors, etc.  Not only do they follow, but often times.... they retweet and it just blossoms & grows from there!

Remember, you don't need to be a Twitter Expert to make it work for you.  Let the power of the Rain assist you and take advantage of those Handy Dandy Short URL Codes AR Offers!

You can also monitor the number of clicks on your Short URL Codes through AR.  Just head to your home page on ActiveRain, Click on Statistics, and you will see every blog post you've ever written with number of views, number of clicks and number of Short URL Clicks!  Pretty cool stuff there!

If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email anytime.... I'll help as much as I can!

David - I am learning a little at a time..... Activerain is so much easier with this wonderful community.  The Short URL codes definitely make it easier to TWEET tho'... Good Luck!

Kristi - Hehehehe.... I won't tell, but you do know this is a public post....LOL?  I just don't get "IT".  Oh well, it works when you throw AR in the loop!

Suzanne - I am so glad I am not alone in the Twitter-Dum Ring!  I just really don't get it! But, the short URL codes are an easy way to work it, and get some positive results.  Good luck with Twitter, and I hope this helps.... If only a little bit!

Amy, definitely a Twitter-dum here...hell...I still don't know what I'm doing in FaceBook let alone Tweeting in Twitterdom.  Anyway, I do know the short URL's are supposed to be advantageous, but haven't really used them yet...guess I really don't know what to do with it once I generate one...

I too don't understand Twitter that much. However, I do post my AR blog posts into Twitter. I always wanted know exactly what URL CLICKS were. Now I know and I am going back to see who is really looking at my blog posts/

Sussie - The Short URL Codes work great for Facebook too!  I used to have my AR posts automatically post to FB, but I like to know how many folks actually click, so I have started using the Short URL Generator more often..... Good Luck with Twitter and let me know if you start to understand it, I'd love to hear more!

One of my plans for 2012 is to try to move beyond twitter-dum where I definitely am so far. I did sign up and actually have a couple followers, though so far they're following a whole lot of nothing. But your tips here will help!

Amy - thanks for the twitter report on how it is going for you! :) have you researched hash tags that are used for your local area? you'll get even more clicks if there is one for your target area - hash tags are basically hyperlinks that people will find you by that they might miss you otherwise! happy tweeting (BTW thanks for the tweet mention recently, didn't get the tweet back sent off)

Amy, this blog will generate more Twitter-dum's than Twitter rights, myself included, except I do tweet some of my Localism posts and they do get me followers. Now if I only knew how to find them

SUGGESTED! I do this with a lot of my localism posts and you can copy and paste the short url on the facebook pages of the businesses or communities where folks will see them. Great post!!

Adrian - The short URL generator is a great tool, easy to use too!

Nancy - I go through phases where I try to tweet everyday.... I start getting the hang of it, and then..... Time and memory get in my way ;0)  Good luck in 2012 with Twitter, I'll be right there with you!

Melissa - Maybe we can discuss Twitter and how to make it work at our MeetUp!  I am so excited about seeing everyone!  Yea!

Craig - Thanks and No, I haven't researched local Hash Tags...... How do I do that (I told you I was Twitter-Dum)?  And you're welcome.... Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving !

Ed - Well, I have one up on you... I know where to find my followers!  Maybe I'm not so Twitter-Dum afterall!  I'll have to head over and make sure I'm following you!

Joni - Thanks for the Suggest!  I love using the Short URL codes for everything, especially twitter (I always have a lot to say and find it difficult to say in 140 characters or less....arghhhhhh)!
