Now that I've finally come up for air, after six months of intense product development, I'm thrilled to see your Top Producer 7i Users Forum here on ActiveRain.

I am a Top Producer 7i Certified Instructor (as well as a Relay Certified National Trainer) and have been an independent marketing and systems consultant for over 16 years.

First, to help you get your arms around your Top Producer 7i implementation, download my free Guide:  "How to Get More From Top Producer 8i"

Second, download my newest free Guide:  "How Agents Can Survive and Even Thrive in a Turbulent Real Estate Market"

Third, be sure to view all three sessions from Part 1 of my new Optimized Agent Marketing Course (also free) at
www.OptimizedAgent.com

These two Guides and three online video tutorials will give you a clearer vision of where to go, why should go there, and how to do it with Top Producer 7i.

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Ray Cobel

Thank you for sharing, Ray.  I love my TP7i, but I know I don't use all of its great features fully.  I'll have to add these to my "to do" list!

It's taking me forever to figure out the 7i capabilities.  Hopefully, 8i will be a little more user friendly/flexible. Thanks for the guide.

Scott, don't feel bad.  It took me four months of intense digging into the system before I was confident enough to go for my 30 hour Top Producer Certification Exam.  There's a lot to the system, because its a really powerful, expert system.

The best (and much easier) way to look at it is to compare it to a car.  You need to learn how to drive it.  The mistake most agents make is they try to be their own "mechanics" too.  That's too hard and time consuming for most agents learn; besides they should concentrate on doing things that can actually make them money, not fooling around under-the-hood in their systems.

Many agents after failing at being their own mechanic never really get their systems up.  The little driving they learn to do amounts to backing the car in and out of the garage. . .occassionally.  What a waste.

Hire a really good mechanic.  Stick to driving.  You'll go much farther, much faster.

Ray I still like your "Outlook is the sexy two seat sportscar while Top Producer 7i is the Mack Truck" analogy.  I've quoted you more than a couple of times.

Any idea how the 8i program will be different than 7i?

Hey Randy.  For those who haven't heard the analogy, the rest of it is that it's really tough to move a household in a sports car; as fun as that car might be for the things its good at.  When you're running a real estate business you really need a "Mack Truck" to haul around all the stuff you've got to handle.

RE:  Top Producer 8i.  I'm one of their Beta testers so, yeah I'm getting a good peak at how it is different.  Can't say much about how it's different yet because:

  1. I'm still digging into it
  2. They're still changing it, based on feedback their getting from Beta Testers
  3. They've kinda sworn us to secrecy

One thing I will say is that whatever you setup in 7i is going to automatically roll over to 8i when it eventually comes out.  So don't use the eventual release of 8i as an excuse to hold off doing what you really need to be doing now in 7i.  That would be like saying I really need gas now, but I'm going to be getting a new car sometime in the next year; so I'm just gonna sit here and wait.  :>)

Ray:

I want to add that I use TP exclusively.  For the newbies, you need to work at it each day.

Do not give up!  It is awesome, but, it takes quite a long time to "get it".

Ray,

I am a current 7i user and I am wondering if they will be automatically upgrading 7i users to 8i or will they continue to be separate. I have been looking for this answer but have not been able to locate an answer.

Thanks for your time,

Tyrone

Hi Tyrone,  as an independent marketing & systems consultant I am not privy to all the latest and exact Top Producer policies.  I can tell you that I've been one of the Top Producer 8i Beta testers and have just been informed that:

  • It has been switched on live
  • Current Top Producer 7i customers will be able to use both 7i and 8i concurrently through the end of 2008.
  • 8i will be priced a little higher
  • The upgrade decision will be left up to the user.  Remember they ran both 6i and 7i for three or four years before they stopped supporting 6i.
  • While your database, templates, plans and other personalizations you've made to 7i will automatically roll over to 8i; you should expect a bit of a learning curve.  They've totally rebuilt the system from the ground up.  Java is gone; you can open multiple windows in a regular Web browser and keep them open (making moving around the program easier)  There are a bunch of other enhancements.  Many things are layed out differently, or accessed differently, or named differently; so it will take some getting used to.

Ray, I spoke to a Top Producer customer support rep recently.  TP8i is still in Beta testing.  They will be in the process of starting to roll out 8i, but only to a small part of the 700,000 users at a time, so that they can iron out any difficulties without causing massive support problems all at once.  They should be automatically converting different segments of users over the summer.

I went through your stuff a while back and found it very useful.  It was a great refresher for me and I even pick up a tip or two on features I didn't use at that time.  Keep up the good work!
