The "Future" is Getting Closer at Lake Anna, Virginia

By

The "future" is getting closer at Lake Anna, Virginia.  We have some massive equipment moving dirt and creating mountains.  What is going on?  A new Food Lion is being built, that's what.

Future Food Lion - Lake Anna, VA

Yes, Lake Anna will be having its first supermarket before you know it.  This is a long awaited amenity for many although Jim and I have lived here full time for 18 years and we have never had a hungry day in all that time.

Often when taking out prospective buyers one of the first question asked as we drive around our rural countryside is, Where do you go grocery shopping?  Now we can show them the beginnings of a good size supermarket right here at the lake. One of the best things is that this one will have a pharmacy as well.  Between the supermarket and the pharmacy we will have many of the necessities of life close at hand.

Making it Happen - Lake Anna, VA

Along with Food Lion, there will be 10 shops, five on each side of the anchor store.  One will be a major sub chain, plus a Chinese restaurant, a pizza place, and other businesses.

If you haven't visited Lake Anna as yet, come and take a look.  If you would like some help getting your bearings (it's a big lake, over 13,000 acres of surface water and approximately 270 miles of shoreline) let me know and I will be happy to show you around or provide a map for you to go solo.

Kate - It looks like this is going to be a big project.  When is it expected to be completed?

Hi Joan...It's scheduled to be up and running February 2010.  That should be here before we know it.

Big changes!  I hope the little mom and pop stores will survive this progress coming to your area.  It's always nice to have more options, but as things change we kind of long for the way it used to be.

Good for you and Lake Anna. The convenience will be great. I was talking to my hygeniest yesterday who lives on our lake and we were discussing how we only have one little IGA to go to without driving 10 miles.

Hi Charles...Fall is beautiful here.  It's a real treat to be out on the lake when the leaves change color.  The reflections in the water can be stunning.  I'll have to post some of my fall photos soon so folks know what to expect.

Hope you're able to make it up to see for yourself.

Hi Kate, I didn't realize Lake Anna was so big!  I hope the Food Lion is seen as a positive in the area.  Many people don't like progress but it sounds like a good thing for your area.

Hi Mary...Yes, Lake Anna is quite big.  Lots of space to get out and do some serious boating, fishing, sightseeing (one of my favorite things to do...love looking at the homes and boat shelters), and all the rest of the things we do here.

With the lake being as large as it is and so much land around it, this will not have a very significant impact visually but it will be a nice thing for all the folks that want the convenience of grocery shopping closer.  Personally we've lived here for 18 years and never gone hungry!.
