I'm not sure if I need a hot day to eat ice cream but it's a good excuse. It's a child hood memory that brings a smile to everyone's face. Growing up in Rowayton we used to ride our bikes down to a place called Hickory Bluff store that sold bait and fishing gear, rented boats, 15 cent candy and hand scooped ice cream, it was the place to go on a hot summer day. It is now a private boat club but luckily we now have a spot on Five Mile River in Rowayton that offers the same high quality, great tasting ice cream... called Brendan's 101. Owned and operated since 1988 by a home-grown Rowaytonite who loves Rowayton and the history it offers.  Inside the store he has pictures and postcards of Rowayton going back to the early 1900's. Other great local ice cream shops Connecticut

If you happen to be in Darien visit Gofer's Ice Cream shop in the middle of town.  In the Goodwives Shopping Center is Baskin & Robbin's the old time favorite. Friendly's Ice Cream is also located on the Eastern side of town on the Post Road ( US route 1), Darien, Ct.

If you are in New Canaan, Baskin and Robbin's is in the middle of town on Main Street.  If you want to try something a little different then visit Gelatissimo on Forest Street in New Canaan. Delicious artisan gelato handmade just like in Italy.
